I had a similar experience with Defy recently. Despite never being into wrestling, I found the live show captivating. I was so pumped about it, I finally watched the doc series “The Wresters” on Netflix which follows a similar wrestling organization. Highly recommended!

I’m so glad Dave got to attend a Defy show! I live in Portland so I go to Defy shows fairly often. Wrestling is such a unique performance art that gets so much unnecessary crap from the general public - it’s theater, it’s acrobatics, it’s a stunt show and a good amount of improve (when you get to higher levels and the crowds are reacting the way performers anticipate). I’ve been an avid wrestling fan my whole life. For context: I watch 4-5 WWE/AEW shows per week and then listen to 3-5 podcasts breakdown each episode and talk about the business/backstage side of it. So I’m DEEP into it 😆 but I don’t post about it much because I feel like most people consider it “lowbrow” due to the types of crowds you’d see in the 80’s/90’s but the crowds these days [especially at places like Defy] are mostly retired theater kids and queer folks and comic nerds. Whenever someone who’s never understood the appeal of prowrestling, goes to a show and gets it, my heart grows three sizes. 💜
