Hi Patrons! We're into month two of this Patreon page and things on the page seem to be stabilizing nicely. I continue to be enormously grateful for all your support, as well as the motivation (and resources) it provides me to make cool things I'm passionate about. That said, from time to time I want to check in with you to see if there's anything you'd like me to make/comment on.

Is there any type of content you'd like to see from me? Are you happy to just support the Patreon without consuming any of the additional content (i.e. the content I make won't impact whether or not you continue pledging?). Or alternatively: Is there stuff you definitely need to see in order to continue your pledging?

So far I've been treating the Patreon like a monetary grant of sorts. It lets me explore things/movies and have conversations with people I'd never otherwise have. As long as folks are okay with that, I'm happy to continue doing so.

I can't say I'll be able to take all suggestions but I'd love to hear from y'all!

Stay the course and I’ll be happy, dude. Loving everything you’ve been putting out.

Jonathon Sutton

Also, if your day job gets overwhelming please don’t feel obligated to maintain a crazy level of content output. I’d love for you to be able to take a week or two off if you needed it. Stay healthy!

Zia Syed

Can't speak for others, but I'm just along for the ride and am not looking for anything specific...I'm happy to support your work (whatever it may be) in my tiny way as a sort of back payment for all the content of yours I've consumed over the years!

David Chen

Thanks Jonathon. It has actually been really tough lately at the day job so this means a lot to hear. That said; I'm loving the stuff I'm putting out on the Patreon, so it's not like it feels bad to create it!

Steve Dennis

I definitely noticed that YouTube content seemed to go through some cycles where there's a blast of stuff and then not as much for a bit, but seeing the tobolowsky files come back eclipsed that thought :) The ad hoc content with joyofnapping is always welcome. Overall a very happy patron. :)

Steve Dennis

Also hearing you talk about work stresses on some of your podcast is totally understandable. Don't let us add to that stress, you're doing fantastic under extraordinary circumstances.

Mike Aparicio

Yeah, don't burn yourself out. I'd rather get quality than quantity. So far I'm getting both but I don't know how sustainable that is.

Christian Evaristo

I know it will be a while but how about bringing back The Ones Who Knock when Better Call Saul returns. Any plans to do anymore weekly recap shows for any upcoming series?

Joe Cyriac

I'll echo what the others have said about this Patreon being not so much an expectation of rewards but more about an appreciation of your body of work. Stay healthy, don't stress about it. Loving the conversations and ruminations with @joyofnapping and Joanna Robinson.

David Chen

Assuming this Patreon is still in good shape at that point, I will definitely cover the new Saul season. LOVE that show. Weekly recap unlikely though, just because of the amount of work and I don't know that it's the best way to appreciate that show. May do some YouTube stuff or maybe do something similar to the lovecraft country stuff I'm currently doing with Joanna where we check in at regular intervals

David Chen

I try to do at least an upload every 1-2 weeks but appreciate that YOU appreciate the Tobo stuff :)

Eric Trapp

Not to beat a dead horse but, while this Patreon may provide the monetary support to do more and strive for bigger projects, it also can provide the monetary support to maybe do less at times and still have a little cushion. Don’t burn yourself out. Be sure to take care of yourself so the content you create can be sustained for the long haul (or... the even longer-haul than it already has). We’re here to support ya in whatever you do. Your content recently has been killer across the board, Dave.

Josh Peek

No expectations from me in terms of “need to see”. I think everyone here is aware of the many projects you are working on outside the Patreon content. The watch-along/commentary turned out great. Looking forward to more of those in the future. Also appreciate the shorter reaction videos to new trailers or breaking news. Thanks Dave!

Linus

I would keep my patreonship regardless, but I've really been enjoying your different movie-reviews posted here (Timecop, Assassin 33 A.D. and the Fallout commentary for example) on Patreon!

Elizabeth Geli

Maybe you've shared this elsewhere before but I'd be super interested to hear how you and @joyofnapping met and started your relationship because I'd love to figure out how to emulate it. :-P

Preetham Yarlagadda

Wanted to echo you're also doing good work. Most of the last set of content hasn't been for me, but it's been pumped out with enough frequency and high quality discussion (I assume) that I can't really complain. Just one suggestion, would love it if some of your livestreams could be added in audio form to the podcast feed. I'm not much of a video watcher but it would have been nice to listen to you guys react to the Trump Covid stuff via audio. If that's too much work/think it'll clog up the feed too much that's no biggie.

Preetham Yarlagadda

Forgot to mention, but I saw someone on another comment suggest a tour of your blu ray collection and just wanted to second that suggestion bc it would rule.

Elizabeth Geli

+1 re: audio, but same nbd if too hard.

Eric Trapp

An idea for a take-it-at-your-pace project could be narrowing down your list of Top 100 Favorite Movies of All-Time! A lot of folks on letterboxd do this and I would love to see/hear your thought process as you move through narrowing down your list. Could be a fun youtube miniseries with episodes you just release whenever you want until the finished product is done!

Andres L.

I’d rather you have the freedom to pursue whatever projects you feel like at the moment, than be bound to an arbitrary expectation of content output. I’m just here to support the stuff you already do.

Eli

I appreciate all of the work you do, so I'll continue to support you as long as you have a Patreon.

Wil Knoble

Just try not to burn yourself out. I’m pretty sure just about everyone would agree. I hope you can kind of use this as an outlet, as in it allows you to talk about what you like to have a positive thing to look forward to... and you don’t even need to over-edit... because I’m positive your supporters want this to be something that helps you and not turn into a burden. Just be you.

David Chen

A couple things: 1) I think I'll try to do the Blu-ray tour this month as a YouTube video! 2) in general I try to put any long form convos onto the audio feed. I declined to do this with the coronavirus stuff recently because the situation was evolving super quickly and I didn't know what course things would take. So, didn't want to be sending out my audio on this topic everywhere and make it easily downloadable. Don't know if that makes sense but hopefully it does. But yeah, In general longform convos will go into the $10 feed.

Ben Odgren

I'd keep giving through patreon as long as I can. Don't need to see anything specific, and same as above, don't burn yourself out. You make so much as is. Your Fallout commentary was great, so maybe another More Mission: Impossible commentary with Patrick Willems?

Sean Choe

Love what you've been doing Dave! /Filmcast is still my favorite content of yours(I just love the chemistry of three of you), but I've been feeling that the spoiler/deep-dive section is quite short than I want it to be. How about doing like an hour-long spoiler-deep-dive on one movie all three of you love, from time to time? Doesn't matter if it's old or new movie, and I don't care if it's Patreon exclusive or not. Might be tough time-managing wise with two parents and one busy creator 🙂, but just my two cents! I'll continue supporting you regardless. 👍🏻

Mich

Love the blu-ray walkthrough idea mentioned. Some past favorites for me included the Mission Impossible watch commentary, and when you and joyofnapping shared your reactions to the covid news. Chatting about films but also the batshit craziness of real-life has provided a bit of comfort and sanity for me at least. Let's see, I'd love to hear about any of your favorite tech/toys/streaming devices, etc. Your favorite movies. Listening to slash film this week, I realized I'd never seen Michael Clayton, so that's my weekend watch. Appreciate those little shoutouts from you guys. Man, if covid weren't a thing, it'd be cool to hear/see some favorite hometown dives, treasures. Anyway, I'm still in. Appreciate you.

Mark Marinaro

More! Burn yourself out for us! I’m obviously kidding, I literally wouldn’t care what you put out just happy to support you if for nothing else the Slashfilm Podcast and your Twitter streams with Joyofnapping. That virtual hangout last month was pretty fun too.

Tony C

Thank you Dave. Glad to be here! I'd like to see you on my favorite platform Twitch. Twitch not just gaming- check out TheSushiDragon, HasanAbi, Jinnytty streams to see the potential. Your voice would be strong there!

Brandon Isaacson

The content you make won't impact whether or not I continue pledging. You do you

Kenny Malone

I’m here for the Chenaissance. Flight sims. How to make one minute movie podcasts. Full length feature commentary. Could not be happier.

Justin Montgomery

Gonna echo what others have said here. Love what you're doing and glad to be able to support you a little bit. I'm a sucker for the full length feature commentaries. I imagine they're pretty labor intensive with all the research and preparation. Not to mention the time it takes to record them. But I'll always be on board for any of those you're interested in doing. Thanks so much for making all this great stuff. Take care.

Kathy Reynolds

Loving the content at whatever pace.

Frank Parrinello

Hi Dave, Based on your twitter recommendation, I ended up seeking out and watching Bong Joon Ho’s Memories of Murder. I loved it so much that I ended up watching, in quick succession, The Host, Mother, Okja, and Snowpiercer. I loved those movies -- especially The Host -- so much that it spurred me to seek out the best of Asian cinema. And so I watched The Wailing, The Chaser, A Tale of Two Sisters, Train to Busan, Burning, Confessions, Save the Green Planet, and Battle Royale. Memories of Murder, The Wailing, Burning, Battle Royale, Save the Green Planet, and The Host are some of the most memorable movie-viewing experiences I’ve had. I don’t know whether your subscribers would be interested, but I don’t think I’ve seen those movies talked about very much. I would love to hear your insights and commentary. In any case, love the stuff you’ve done so far.

Adam Rosalky

How about a day in the life of Dave, or a behind the scenes look at prepping a podcast episode.

USNA 98

I think you said you and Devindra were/are big HK movie fans going way back. Would love to hear you review some of your favorites (top 10?). I was one of those guys who rented every HK movie I could find at Tower and then dub them onto blank VHS tapes for later re-watching. Though not a HK movie, I sent off for a bootleg copy of the director's cut of Hard Target just to see the movie how John Woo intended...still have it to this day.

Pixel-davis

My favorite type of post is the "journal" style check-in posts.

Jonathon Sutton

Frank, you’ve got some GREAT taste in movies, man!

Song Notes by David Pots

Loving it all, Dave. I enjoy the diversity of topics, hope that keeps up. Nice to have a grab bag.

Paul Young

I'd love to see you discuss Raised by Wolves! Johanna Robinson in on the discussion would be a bonus! Keep up the great work!

Mike Shaw

I like the variety of content. and just in it for all things Chen. I do enjoy when @joyofnapping joins you, but it could be fun to get some other guests on as well. (outside the Culturally Relevant guests.

Brennan C

I love the reviews of old movies that you have been doing. I would love to see a discussion about Back To The Future!
