Out of curiosity, which James Baldwin book did @joyofnapping read? As it happens I'm listening to the audiobook of "Begin Again" by Eddie S. Glaude, Jr., which is part biography, part history, part contemporary politics, all through the context of Glaude's scholarship of Baldwin's writings. It's a fascinating book so far, and it makes me want to check out Baldwin as well. Just curious where you got started.

Thank you for this. The day started out so hopeful. Still reeling from this.

Thanks for sharing, Dave. Crazy synchronicity: I also spoke with friends about another aspect of 12 Monkeys that came to mind during today's disturbing events; specifically Brad Pitt's rant about how dangerous it would be to allow the inmates in the asylum access to phone lines so that they could spread their "plague of madness". The weaponization of social media to do just that seems to have brainwashed and radicalized so many Americans. Scary times. Again appreciate you both sharing your thoughts.

The Fire Next Time. I have heard that Begin Again is fantastic!

I’ve always been a huge fan of yours. Your wife makes me an even bigger fan. I am always so happy when she joins you on these podcasts. I don’t have a way with words the way you both do but just know that it means so much to hear sane people with similar opinions in a time where it seems like the world is so upside down. Thank you for seeing what I see and putting words to it. So many “friends” are in such a rush to get back to normal or “just not political” and it makes me feel so alone sometimes. Thank you both so much for being there.

I wouldn't mind a zoom call to talk about all this.

Thanking the both of you for sharing this! I'm lucky to have folks in my life who I can talk sanely about this with, but even with that privilege, it is great hearing your thoughts on just how upside the past 2 days have been. It is affirming even though it is depressing to think about. I agree that most of us (at least those of us who have been reading the signs of the times!) have been anticipating what happened but it doesn't supersede the shock of watching it happen in real time.
