Mountain of Conflict

1. The 30% cut is a lot for something where most creators earn very little, but that's been the Apple way for most things. 2. Bear in mind, some people might migrate to the Apple subscription from Patreon, so you lose some of that as well. Makes it even harder to do a cost-benefit-analysis.

I will say that my hatred of the Apple podcast app burns with the fury of a thousand suns. As a consumer, there is nothing about the application that would make me migrate back to it from any other podcatcher (I currently use PocketCasts). Spotify has a better podcast interface. Heck, even Amazon Music (which offers a truly awful user experience) is better podcatcher than the Apple Podcast app. I know the mythical argument is that you will get a larger consumer base in exchange for the 30% cut, but I don't think that the audience they are offering is really that large compared to other services. People have so many different ways to listen to podcasts, I don't see why they would insist on having a clunky and substandard experience when there are other options.

I'm a Downcast user, but didn't the Apple one get better? It's always been the basic option, which is fine.

I do use Apple podcasts lol, but not for any particular reason other than accessibility between all my Apple devices. I can start the podcast on my MacBook, switch to my iphone when taking a walk, and then finish it off on my Apple TV device when I come home. I've never entertained using another app before and I genuinely don't have issues with the UI, but I'd be curious to try them out if they have the same ability to be used across devices.

Other apps definitely have that feature and use iCloud for syncing, so that should work as good. But they have other features like silence trimming and really granular control.

I am genuinely happy if other people enjoy the Apple podcasts app. It is not for me, though. It just seems like a crowded landscape and getting more crowded every day as existing audio services are adding podcasting as a feature. I would not be surprised if Patreon or Substack or any of the other paid information services started adding "podcasts behind a paywall" features. I haven't seen what makes the Apple podcast app distinctive yet. That's all. Thanks for the conversation! Love this group and the level of discourse.

Completely agree. its a POS!! Dave, you need to post a step by step instructions on how to post review on your podcast in Apple. Its next to impossible.
