Every month I do a Patron hangout for everyone who subscribes at the $10+ level (Patrons of that tier also get bonus podcasts I do with Joanna Robinson and other fine folks from the internet). Last night we chatted about:

Transitioning back into non-pandemic life

Traveling to Iceland

How the pandemic has shaped our views on relationships/marriage

NFTs

If you weren't able to attend, hope you enjoy the conversation!

Thanks again, Dave. It's been great getting to know you a bit more personally, as well as the others who regularly join us. Re: our discussions of returning to theaters, we just found out the indie theater closest to us is opening in a week https://www.theavalon.org/. Our plan is to see "In the Heights" there on the 12th!

Oh man - my audio is terrible. I need to start using my Blue mic for these.

Apologies in advance for the lengthy comment, but I forgot to mention what was by far the strangest aspect of my pandemic engagement. Here it is: 7-8 months after I proposed, a lifestyle reporter for the Washington Post reached out to do a story…based on an old blog post that Google Analytics tells me only a small handful of people ever saw. There were no mutual connections or shady vanity tech favors being called in. Just a cold email intro, followed by a 15 minute phone call and a half hour with a photographer on the sidewalk (probably our first in-person interaction outside of our bubble in 9 months). We assumed it would be buried, or used as one sentence in some larger human interest story. But a few days later, East Coast friends were texting me news stand photos: our names and faces were above the fold on the front page of the WaPo Style section, with the print title "Even in 2020, love is in the air" (digital was "The pandemic helped them realize: I want to marry you"). As arguably one of the least stylish people on the planet, I cannot express to you how surreal it was to see my disheveled quarantine self in the news for a day. (Fiancé looked amazing though, so mission accomplished! Also: never, ever, ever read the comments on an article about you when you share a name with the worst person in America.)

Hey Dave, I wasn't able to join and greatly appreciate you posting this for later viewing. It was a great discussion and it's good to see other Chenfolk.

Dave, thanks so much for hosting the meeting! It was great to finally meet you and everyone who was there. I don’t often have an opportunity to just take a break from working and it was great to join in the meeting with a great group of people. Thanks so much!
