Dave on Dave is an ongoing series in which David Cho and David Chen gather together to discuss life and work. Also, usually David Cho has some harsh words to say about David Chen's stuff!

In this episode, Dave Chen freaks out about Elon Musk's Twitter stake, then debate whether Dave should launch a new newsletter or whether he needs to think bigger.

I enjoy pitting the Daves against each other but you both made great points. Quick comments: 1. I just wanted to voice how valuable the Asian-focused discussions are and if there’s somewhere I can listen to that stuff, that would be great 2. I’ve been in online communities for the better part of 15 years. In some ways that's not a ton of time, but if taken as a % of the number of years I’ve been alive it's significant. I have a lot of nuanced and serious opinions about ostensibly unserious spaces. I’m in an unknown number of Slack orgs, Discord servers, subreddits, Twitter communities, Facebook groups, email lists and Google groups, group chats, and probably a ton of stuff I can’t think about right now. I’d ditch most of those to join whatever community you started, if it comes to that.

Do the thing, Dave! You've kept that light under a bushel for too long!

David Chen

That likely won't be necessary, but WOW this is very kind, thank you.

I would love to see The Dave Channel. I’m sure you could fill it easily with your various and sundry musings that are sharp and bright in s way rarely seen in most social media sites. Your voice is also soothing on the ears.

Build out your podcast network, Dave. You’re great at it, and you have had tons of excellent guests that could be wonderful additions to a Chen channel. It’d be like what Bill Simmons essentially did with The Ringer, but forget the website and focus on podcasts. I think you would make something truly great.

As a subscriber to many podcasts and newsletters, I really appreciate the focus on putting together one quality product, i.e. The Filmcast or DLC. (Of course I end up consuming most of Dave’s other online work anyway!) With some larger content creators I have no hope of catching up on what they put out every day. But that doesn’t mean I didn’t get excited when David Cho imagined the DCU (Dave Chen Universe). If that doesn’t end up happening I’m still up for a David Chen Substack in my inbox every week with the occasional guest post.

I 100% agree that a Cheniverse network similar to “Kinda Funny” or “The Ringer” would be amazing and would be where I spent most of my time on the internet. Do it!

Not sure if I should take Dave's unrelenting quest for power as inspiration or a cautionary tale.

This was a fascinating discussion and I am enthralled by the idea of a Culturally Releverse
