On (most) Sundays, I hop on Twitter spaces with Scott Mendelson and we run down the top 5 movies at the box office this weekend. I'm sharing it as an audio podcast here on my Patreon!

This week, Elvis takes the top spot while Lightyear struggles to stay alive.

One of my favorite experiences from this weekend was seeing a young man (maybe in his young 20's) wearing an Elvis shirt walking into the theater with a woman that looked to be his grandmother. I think there is something to the family bonding aspect of this film.

If I can put on my Scott Mendelson hat on, regarding Elvis. The film is a predictable musical biopic, BUT, it's obviously who it is about and the audience the film brings. We may see it as a whatever biopic, but when I took my 74 year old mom (she was a fan since she was 8) to the theaters, she, along with several elderly women, were taken back to a time they were youthful, gushing over him. The final song he sings brought literal tears to their eyes. So it's not just a story, but an experience for a particular demographic, and that's why it did well.

Listened to this one late, but my experience with top gun in screen x was disappointing. Maybe my theaters wasn’t set up properly, but the images on the side were just projected onto the white walls, so the coloring was off. The color mismatch really threw off the encapsulating feeling you’re supposed to have and actually distracted me from really enjoying the wider shot. My other viewing l was in IMAX which blew it out of the water
