Hey Patrons,

January is historically a lull when it comes to movies and despite the success of M3GAN and PLANE, this year is not really that different. (That said: Do check out my coverage of The Last Of Us over on Decoding TV)

I wanted to create a thread just so you can make any requests for what you want me to cover, or ask me any questions you might have these days. I'm happy to address them in a Patreon post or over at my free newsletter, Decoding Everything.

Thanks, as always, for your support!

I will try to check at least one of these out!

Haven't seen The Peripheral yet and honestly not sure I will based on the reviews (although I always love catching Vincenzo's work). Do you think I should watch it?

David Chen

I appreciate the feedback about the 'legacy' podcast but that is a massive undertaking and I'm not quite ready for it yet.

Carole Mariani

I really enjoyed the journey although I don’t think they stuck the landing. It’s worth a watch IMO but your free time seems quite limited so I’m not sure that I would prioritize it over or categorize it as “prestige tv” like most of the shows you review.

Luke

Hi Dave - I really enjoyed your full season review of 1899. I’d be interested to hear some other one-off episodes in a similar format with Joy, Kim, and other collaborators. If you’re looking for recent(ish) TV recommendations, I thought The Patient on Hulu and Bad Sisters on Apple were both good and relatively under the radar. Thanks for opening up this thread, and for all you do!

Hi Dave, I would love to have a special episode / show review of the tv show Atlanta. For me there is nothing out there that covers topics like Atlanta did. I think Hiro Murai and Donald Glover are both geniuses!

Maxwell Jacobson

Would love to read a https://usesthis.com -style post from you about what hardware and software you use. I'm curious in particular if you use things like RSS for following websites, or any research/bookmarking tools like Obsidian, Evernote, Pinboard...

Steve

Not to yuck anyone's yum, but i feel like that would be cluttering my feed with potentially unwanted content. If you ever take that on, I'll cross my fingers for it to be on a different feed.

Kyle Dovenbarger

Thank you for covering. I hope you do a full episode on this show. I enjoy hearing your reflections. They help guide my own.

Stranger2Reality

If you guys are struggling to find a movie to review, you should check out A Man Called Otto, which has actually been more successful than Plane. I think Jeff in particular would really enjoy it.

Linus

Hi Dave! This isn't really a film-related thing, but as someone who's been greatly enjoying (and been inspired by) your 1 Second Everyday-compilations I'm curious if you're still doing the project and if you have any plans on releasing another yearly summary on YouTube or so in the future? Thanks for all your great work and podcasts!

Stephen Porcello

I will always root for you to create some sort of evergreen content - a rewatch of a TV show like The Americans or The Sopranos which was once floated as an option for you and Siddhant. Would be interesting to do one season - potentially even grouping the episodes so it is less time.

One of my goals for 2023 is to invest in more physical media. I’m looking at TVs, a new blu-ray player, sound bars/speakers, certain discs etc. Do you have any opinions on any equipment or advice to a beginner collecting physical media? Or favorite films to check out physical releases of?

Brandon Lee Tenney

I'm with Stephen, I think Decoding TV is missing a "legacy" podcast, a rewatch or some kind. The Americans/The Sopranos are great choices. I'd also love more article/other media discussions. 30 min episodes etc. I'd also love more behind the scenes, life-stuff from you. In the vein of Dave on Dave!

Carole Mariani

Wondering if you watched The Peripheral? New Patreon subscriber so apologies if this was already addressed. You may or may not recognize my name as a long time listener/long time emailer of Decoding Reality- I agree with your comments regarding the problematic nature of Love is Blind and look forward to listening if you expand the Decoding Reality empire. I also look forward to more Dave on Dave and I am hoping for additional podcasts featuring @joyonapping!

Dear Dave, thanks for opening this thread. One thing I would like to see more is your expertise to decode some of the WTF moments on great movies that you and your FilmCast friends recommended. One particular question I have is the last act in TAR. TAR is a good movie. But the last act. Is it wrong for me to interpret it as the director hinting that Tar has fallen so hard that she can only find gig in "lowly" places that is not worthy of high art such as the un-named SE Asia country. And that spa, is it wrong for me to interpret that some sexual transaction will follow ? If my interpretation is not wrong, than I would be quite disappointed that SE Asia is yet again used by Hollywood to symbolize something lowly or beneath western culture.

Nathaniel St. Clair

Was really hoping you would bring back some Decoding Reality. Love to hear your thoughts on The Circle on Netflix, Traitors on Peacock.

Alphonse Brown

I would like to hear what you all thought of “Kaleidoscope” on Netflix and “Devotion”, which is currently on Paramount+.

Danny C

Would you consider doing a regular or semi-regular podcast with Joy that summarizes the week or month that was in pop culture? Something akin to what the two of you did in the early days of the pandemic but focused on pop culture or current favorite things/experiences.

Kevin Tsao

Yes totally agree! More Siddhant! We didn't get to hear what the final season would've been for Westworld

Manny Muñoz

What's Tobolowsky doing these days? Post(?)-pandemic catch-up? Anything on your mind you would like discuss or dive into for CULTURALLY RELEVANT? Maybe interviewing a Meme-Lord/Influencer? Possibly leading to some good discussions about your recent experience with tweeting less? @tgmarc (@quentin.quarantino) and @taylorlorenz (@taylorlorenz3.0) come to mind as some options. Lorenz is working on a new book, so maybe might be able to be apart of that press run. Anyone on the Social Justice side of social media that interests you?

Alex Crumb

Would love to hear more discussion on Drive to Survive, the role of sports in entertainment and things of that nature. Also, I’ve noticed a trend of movie and tv show clips on TikTok. While I wouldn’t say that it is the creators intention to have these clips seen in that format and with audio or visual effects added on top but it’s fun to see some great performances on that context and it has influenced me to watch some of the movies I see clips of. Specifically “Moneyball” and “That Awkward Moment” although the latter is more cringey and offensive than I remembered when I first saw it as a 25 year old in 2014.
