Dave on Dave is an ongoing series in which David Cho and David Chen gather together to discuss life and work. Also, usually David Cho has some harsh words to say about David Chen's stuff!

In this episode, the Daves discuss the terrible state of the media industry. Then, David Chen reflects on some of his recent experiences at Sundance and with the Decoding websites.

Postcard sounds really great, David! The rare time I was more convinced the more you kept talking. Hopefully there’s a whole “date night” section, various categories. And lots of features for parents/kids. Very cool idea that I can see myself actually using and contributing to. Dave, Decoding TV is phenomenal, proud of you! And this was a particularly great episode of DonD, too!

Dave, I love the new DecodingTV format, I prefer the casual talk to the minute point for point recaps. I agree with Dave Cho, that a third cohost might create an even better/more entertaining version of the show. I personally prefer podcast with 3 hosts, as the dynamic is more entertaining. But even if you keep it the way it is now, its a great format! 👏 👏 👏 Ps. Keep the random poker stories comin :)

I got a laugh at the beginning of this when Dave Chen tried to describe these to new listeners as very disorganized (or whatever he said), as I always find these to be very well structured and coherent, rather than just like loose babble. DChen sometimes reminds me of Doc Brown in the Back to the Future films always apologizing for the "crudity" of his models, when the reality is they're always amazing looking. You are a consummate professional, Dave, don't ever have doubts about that. It's a big part of why your Patreon is such a good value 👍

I loved the richness of this edition of Dave on Dave! Scoping out to the large shifts in media trends, getting specific rationales about the new Decoding TV format (which is great!!), and also getting Dave’s thoughts on the Substack dilemma…this was all fascinating. (Just as a consumer/reader I’ve had my own internal struggle with what to do about Substack.). Just one thought for Dave: wherever Decoding Everthing ends up, I value your writing a LOT, and hope to see / read more of it. I’ve always appreciated you keeping the newsletter free and allowing those who wish to move to paid subscriptions, but maybe this is not sustainable, regardless of platforms. But for me, the newsletters that publish only partial posts and require a paid sub to see *anything* of substance only make me resentful. Thanks from a fellow frequent whisper-receiver!

Loved this chat. Excited to hear more about Postcard too. Dave I’m appreciating the “homework” part if your new Decoding episodes. Its very helpful to determine what i might want to start watching

Any chance of invite codes for Postcard? I’m planning a trip and wanted to use it!

I feel like a Chapter or Arc has finished when David Cho asked David Chen to do a promo for Postcards as "payment". As always though enjoyed the episode.
