(production-notes) Episode 8 (Patreon)
Content
I try to keep Lost Terminal as hard sci-fi as I can. Sci-fi encompasses many worlds, themes, and stories. One way of categorising them is by hardness. A hard sci-fi is as true-to life and realistic as possible. I like to think of the Martian-Star Wars gradient.
In The Martian, Andy Weir, tried to imagine what a martian mission would look like if NASA had the budget to do it, with modern-day technologies.
In Start Wars, George Lucas's thought process was "what if samurai, but in space".
Both are valid ways of telling stories, I am aiming for hard sci-fi.
Because of this, I had to do a STACK of research for the space station Seth is on. In this episode, mostly about how space stations are assembled. It's a fascinating process, and I highly recommend this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oLrOnEmy_GA.
We touch on the state of Antarctica (the land mass) in this episode. If all the ice were removed, did you know it's not an island, but an archipelago? See the attached image for a NASA simulation of this!
I hope you liked the episode, thank you so much friends <3
