(production-notes) Episode 2.4 (Patreon)

Now we're cooking. Getting Seth out into the world is a very important milestone. I'm so keen to show you  everything, and it's been difficult while our main character is hospitalised!

I've optimised my audio recording setup somewhat for this episode. I have learned a lot over the course of making LT, and I've put that in to practice now. The audio should sound cleaner, crisper, and with a more full sound.

Let's talk about the character of Maddie, who we've focussed on in this episode. She doesn't have A.I. like Seth or Antarctica does. I know it sounds like she's very emotional, or has personality. But you've got to remember that we're hearing the account through Seth's perspective. Seth, through want of companionship, is humanising Maddie  through language. Her problems are indeed of simple programming, not emotion, but Seth is interpreting them in this way. Like how we might humanise a pet far more than is realistic.

I'm very pleased with how Adrian came into the story. I wondered when he would pop in. You'd think I would know, being the writer! But these things sometimes just happen as I'm writing other things. This is my favourite part of writing, when it is so easy, like the story has already taken place, and I'm just noting down the facts. Not every day is like that, of course, other times you have to just put one word in front of another, until the chapter is done.
