No Season 3 Videos (explaination) (Patreon)

TL;DR: I'm still going to upload to youtube, but without the terminal animation. The terminal videos take up time which I'd rather put in to exciting ways to make LT better. Read on for details...

Hi lovely people! This time last quarter (ie, between seasons 1.0 and 2.0) I asked you if you would prefer longer episodes (season 1 had 8-minute episodes) or shorter episodes but with the terminal videos. After voting and discussion, I decided to do both. Unfortunately, this is not sustainable.

What's so hard about making videos? Well, for me, it's not my forte, and I spend the majority of my weekend time making them. If they were good for the podcast, I'd continue, but I don't think they are...

As I mentioned in a previous post, I've been delighted with how the podcast is going - hundreds of people tune in every week! However, those numbers are not reflected on YouTube (some episodes approach single-digit views!). This is perhaps reasonable - I'm making a podcast, and the most convenient way to listen is using a podcast app like Spotify or iTunes or any of the hundreds of other apps.

Though the videos were a very important inspiration for the podcast, I no longer think they are important in the future. YouTube videos are VERY shareable: so they're great for getting people INTO the show. But with 1.0 and 2.0 done, if someone is listening to 3.0, they don't need a video to be hooked, right? In a story, people start at the beginning.

It's not all bad news. I'm not killing the videos to have more time, I'm killing the videos to have more time to work on Lost Terminal! Without the mental overhead of constantly tweaking the audio and script so the videos match up, and the physical overhead of making the videos, I'll be able to focus my energy on other stuff. 

Certainly, the script and story has gotten more complex (and you'll see that more in Season 3.0, now that Seth can talk to the world), but in addition to making the radio show better, I'm freed up to work on other aspects of the show. The first of these I hope to announce this week.

I hope that explains it, and you're not too disappointed. If it's a terrible idea and it proves to be so, well, I can fix that too <3
