BIG NEWS for this episode!

1. Finally using a mic pre-amp
2. THE ENGINE IS REVEALED
3. BONUS PODCAST UPDATE

Pre-amp

Those who follow the pod on twitter may have noticed my sadness that when I upgraded to version 4.0 of the WONDERFUL Bitwig studio (photo above) they changed the way the sound was visualised, making the noise of my system much more obvious:

After watching the REALLY GREAT guide to all things voice actor-y by SBN3, I realised my problem could be mitigated with a pre-amp, which boosts your mic signal, drowning out the noise of your system. Here's a picture of my tests, as you can see, the effect is subtle:

Zoom in to read the cue markers at the top to see what this all means.

ANYWAY, the end result is less noise, and I think a slightly better bottom-end for the sound. My pre-amp is the Cloudlifter CL-1, if you're interested. Watch the above video for the full low-down.

The Mystery Engine Revealed

Amelie's Iron Engine IS REAL!

It's not even theoretically real, or just at the prototype stage, A BREWERY IN THE NETHERLANDS IS USING IT RIGHT NOW:

The group who created this technology are called SOLID, from Eindhoven University of Technology. Read all about them here: https://teamsolid.org/our-solution/

Their goal is to replace power generation dirty marine shipping engines with iron engines. Great, right?

Bonus Podcast Update

We had some trouble with our previous recording of the pilot (hence me buying the preamp!) but we re-recorded last night AND I WILL PUBLISH TOMORROW. Keep an eye on the podcast feed and twitter!)

Thank you so much for your support, talk to you tomorrow! <3
