[production-notes] Episode 5.8 (Patreon)

So happy with how my mic is working these days. I used to have to boost the volume of all my recordings by +6dB, which of course boosted the NOISE as well as my voice. No more, thanks to my mic pre-amp (Cloudlifter CL1). Big fan!

Have you seen my new patron targets? I'd love your opinion on them. The thing with a target is that the granularity matters at the start, but less as the numbers increase. For example, going from 0 to 1 is EARTH SHATTERING for an artist. But going from 1000 to 1001? Appreciated, yes, but not to the level of the first. It's just human nature!

Taking that effect into account I realised that there was a perfect system that I could employ here: Powers of 2. Here's the new goals:

The first tier is 2¹ patrons, the second 2², the third 2³, and so on. This  not only feels right, but TOTALLY FITS THE SHOW'S SUPER NERDY THEME! I love it when a plan comes together.

Here's the current goal I'm working towards:

I'm excited about setting up a community of interested patrons where we can chat about the world, environmentalism, and mental health! The goal after that, 64, is where I finally have enough money to cover a video editor, and can bring back the terminal videos from seasons 1.0 and 2.0.

BTW: Seth may not remember where this new satellite person is from, but if you re-listen to 4.8, he has heard her signal before...
