[production-notes] Episode 6.3 (Patreon)
Content
Hi All!
If something feels different about this episode, it's because I didn't enjoy my normal lazy Saturday breakfast, reading the episode to Lucy over tea. This very nice ritual is normally the final step before recording, but she was away this weekend! I'm just about recovered from this ordeal, but please send sympathies. /s
LOTS more Lojban this episode! I'm not J.R.R. Tolkien, so I didn't invent this language: I've mentioned it before, but it started off as an attempt to see if the language you speak affects your thinking. Lojban is pronounceable mathematics, so maybe you could express your thoughts more clearly.
This hypothesis (it's called Sapir-Whorf) is difficult to test because it requires you to teach a child Lojban as it's first language, which seems 1. cruel and 2. impossible to control. Just like Seth, children speak the language they hear around them. I suppose you'd have to lock up the child when not teaching them with no TV? PROBLEMATIC!
I'm not expert in Lojban, I just own two books on the subject. I have tried to approximate the correct pronunciation. The actual words are correct, I am certain of that, the rules are easy to follow, but without another speaker to teach me, a book is a very poor substitute. Have a read https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lojban
Poor LUNA, eh? If NASA ever follow through on their plans for a radio telescope on the far side of the moon, that'll be a VERY LONELY place to work! Imagine not only being on the moon, but not ever being able to see your home planet. That seems a real downside. Though the stars would be very bright at night, I guess.
That's all folks, if you're on the CRAY or higher tier, I'll be shipping your seasonal shirts this week!
Thank you so much <3
