[production-notes] Episode 7.6 (Patreon)

Hi all, thank you for being patient with me while I recovered! The reason last week's episode was delayed 2 days was because I had norovirus, which caused me to be acutely dehydrated for like a WEEK! Ugh, I can't recommend it, I'm still not 100%, but I'm basically there. Thank you for all your well-wishes, that makes me feel so happy! <3

ON TO THE EPISODE

Peter's daydreaming! This is a common coping mechanism for ADHD, think children in school looking out of a window, procrastinating. Maladaptive Daydreaming, the DSM calls it. Because AIs do their thinking throughout the network, he's milling around between the VHF sites.

Which leads me to VHF! I've done so much research on how a global radio network would work after hard links are broken - it's not an area of knowledge for me, really, and I want to get it as correct as I can. You'll see WAY MORE next episode, when we meet a Ham radio operator, but for now let's just say I'm thinking about becoming one myself...

Love the music in this episode. I've broken a rule for myself that LT music has to start and end in the key of C. This allows easy blending of tracks into each other. But the chords in this one were so crunchy I had to make an exception. (If you're interested, it's Am7 F#m7 Fmaj7 Em7). I've been wanting to find something that evokes a pre-collapse Station 6, and that's this track. The page-turning sound effects at the start put me in mind of reading a book in orbit looking out over the Earth. Lovely! 

I continue to have amazing success with REAPER, the audio editor I've switched to for the podcast. I'm getting faster and faster using the keyboard to edit, cutting down my time dramatically. I'm excited that this will allow me to do MORE in 2022.

Unusually for me, season 8.0 is already fully-formed in my mind. WHAT AN EXCITEMENT IT WILL BE. I can't wait to show you. Don't forget to tell me if you want a character idea in there, too.
