[production-notes] Episode 8.4 (Patreon)
Content
Hi gang, thanks so much for your support!
Big change from a production standpoint this episode. I have stopped using Descript to pre-edit my scripts. I still think it's a great tool, and if you're new to editing, it could be a game changer for you - but after giving it a good try for a few episodes (I also edited Heliophage and Modem Prometheus using it) I think it's doesn't give me $12/month of value. I've been editing music for (gulp) 25 years? I'm pretty good at it!

I'm just about keeping up with the 2-weeks ahead schedule, and I've made a big change to accommodate that. I wonder if you will notice it? I'll announce it explicitly in a few episodes time, but I wonder if anyone will spot the change. It's the sort of thing that takes a LOT of my time but perhaps doesn't affect the podcast much at all. Kind of like in season 3 when I stopped producing the videos that took me LITERALLY ALL DAY TO MAKE, when I could see by the analytics that only one or two people were watching on youtube!
Bit of a shame, I'm really proud of those videos...
WHAT'S THIS?
Soon, folks, soon!

I'm not DELIGHTED with the music for this episode. It didn't click for me. It seems fine on paper, I'm not sure what exactly isn't jiving. It's like this sometimes, it's the musician's equivalent of Writers Block (if such a thing exists, a question for another time), and usually I can come back to it another day, dust it off, and put in exactly the right part or instrument that jells the whole thing. Never happened with this one. I'm not the final arbiter of what is good, though, so I released it into the wild. I'll try harder next week (or, the week after, as next week's music is already written!).

Thanks all, you're awesome. See you next week <3
