[production-notes] Episode 9.8 (Patreon)

Hi folks, there's light at the end of the tunnel! We're in the home stretch now, with IVAN and LUNA getting help, though it's not quite working out perfectly for either of them is it?

---

HELLO NEW PATRONS! There's been a flood of new friends since the astonishing success of the discord channel, with many people who came to talk about my Rust youtube videos getting interested in LT too, which is WONDERFUL!

We're at 54 patrons so far, just 10 short of my goal of 64 when I've pledged to (somehow!) start the LT 'terminal' videos again. What an adventure that will be! I love them so much, and thanks to your support, I can set aside time to produce them once again!

Thank you!

The Low-bandwidth method that Nia has taught LUNA to speak with is (as usual for LT) real. It's based on PSK31 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PSK31) AND IT LOOKS COOL:

Time goes down the graph in the Y axis, and frequency is along the X axis.

Each of those lines is a sinewave, a pure tone, at a different frequency. You switch the phase to indicate a 0 or a 1, and you do it so slowly that you can cut through so much noise. PSK31 was designed for amateur radio operators to do keyboard-to-keyboard chat, with no servers, point-to-point around the world.

And before you ask, yes it predates the film The Matrix and it's entirely possible that the histogram view inspired the code in that film!

There's a lot happening with Maddie and with the Omarov family that I'll talk about soon.

Thank you so much for your support, I'm so excited to see where we're going next. Talk to you next week <3
