IMPORTANT - Patreon change to monthly billing, AI poll results and plans for the future. (Patreon)
Content
Apple is forcing Patreon (supposedly) to change all "per creation" patreon accounts into the monthly subscription system by November 1st, or earlier. This way, your patronage will be consistent each month, regardless of how much art I make (I'll still work full time, don't worry).
Tier rewards won't change for now, and I will only make more serious changes later down the line as needed.
"How will this affect me?"
Everyone will continue paying the same monthly amounts as always and be charged at the start of the month, or on the date you rejoin if you leave.
Patrons with no pledge limits will notice no changes, since they've already been paying the full monthly amount ($15, $30 or $60) each month.
Coillector patrons will continue to get Coills equal to their patronage.
HI-Res and MAX-Res patrons WITH pledge limits will still pay the same limited amount as always, but on tiers that will be x6 in price and content, so instead of the full reward, I'll send Coill rewards proportional for their patronage so everyone gets the same value per amount pledged, otherwise it'd be unfair to new and old patrons that pay full price.
Since I can't make special tiers for every partial patronage level (that'd make 10 new tiers!), as a compromise, I'm considering making a $5 tier that will get you ~1/6th of whatever I make in the month at MAX res. (So exactly what a single $5 tier pledge gets you nowadays). If I end up setting this up and it works for you, please switch to this tier whenever possible.
Tentatively, the new monthly tiers would be:
Peek - $5 per month for 1/6 of monthly content at MAX-res. (might change reward if I come up with a better idea)
Hi-Res - $15 per month for all monthly content at the standard Hi-Res.
MAX-Res - $30 per month for all monthly content at the largest resolution
Coillector - $60 per month for 60 Coills, enough for 4 months of Hi-Res rewards, or 2 MAX-Res rewards.
I'm not sure when the change will happen, waiting for Patreon to respond to my last email, could be this month, but it'll definitely start by November 1st
"Any other changes?"
Maybe!
I won't be limited to classic "Update" constraints. I will simply have to make $30 worth of content each month! What would patrons prefer in that case?
I could dedicate more pieces to the top poll results.
Make longer, more ambitious animations.
Make an illustration every day to maximize characters drawn per month.
How about longer parody comics or similarly ambitious projects?
Dare I dream... slowly work on an original game project?
It'll be patron feedback that defines what works or doesn't, so we'll see in time.
Many Coillectors would rather pick and choose only the characters they like, so I'll find a way to let them do so with their Coills.
Regarding the AI poll results.
It's clear that the great majority don't want me to use ANY AI in my work, which is both a relief and a bit confusing, because why are so many people supporting AI users then?
It's like I'm missing something, maybe the AI fans have already left? Is it a different demographic?
It's still a bit disconcerting feeling like I'm fighting an unfair battle against AI users. Like fighting a war with a flintlock pistol against robots with miniguns!
The dread remains in the air, so I can only hope the human factor will actually triumph in the end.
Regardless of my worries, please rest assured that this Patreon will remain AI-art free for as long as there's support for human works like mine.
Plans for the future.
Patronage has been crashing down for a few months (I suspect due to issues with reach on X), but it's gotten dire enough that I'll start trying various things again.
For now, my top option is to make as many fun super-SFW intros as possible to try to maximize SFW posts per month. I would like to keep them simpler to put more effort into the NSFW content, which I believe you'd prefer
Animations are on the table (I noticed you liked it the most last month), but uncertain at the moment due to time constraints, hoping to try again whenever possible.
The shift to monthly subscriptions will allow me to try various things in following months, like trying to make daily pieces, or trying to build up AI-resilient works, unique-to-me content that AI users can't produce, like comic series or game stuff. I'm wary of this content since it's less popular, so I'll tread carefully.
I hope you will not mind me trying things out in these tough times.
