When I was around 11yo I went to the theme park in Launceston (Penny Royal). I was messing about in the queue for the pirate ship ride and doing the whole “Hey mum you lost, i’m the smart one and chose the fast queue & got on the ride before you”…which was a great freedom opportunity at that age. After I finished poking my tongue out etc and telling her she was a sucker etc…she paused and then started laughing hysterically. I had managed to get on the pirate ship ride with a tour group of kids with Downs Syndrome. You have NEVER seen such an enthusiastic loud bunch than 30 odd Downs kids….and the ride is REALLY slow! My mother had pretty much pissed herself when I got back and used all her Film taking shots of me being the odd one out on the ship of mayhem!
