Hi everyone, we've just finished tonights watercolour hang out and I decided to do something a little bit different. With one reference photo we first all talked through colours and colour swatched for a bit to get ourselves fully prepared for some timed paintings.

We often do some timed painting in the hang outs but at leisurely 20 and 30 minutes(!)

Tonight I wanted to really get back to what the true purpose of timed painting is for and we did 1, 5, 10 and 20 minutes and once the time is up the painting is done! Everyone had their own fascinating journey with the timed paintings and we all had different preferences for different times.

Why do we do timed paintings?

For me, this exercise is so useful in focusing my mind to paint quickly and instinctively with no room for procrastination or fear. It brings out the loosened up painter in me and I'm often most fond of the paintings in the shorter time limits. Once you move onto the longer time frames you feel far better prepared to make the best of the time.

If you haven't tried timed paintings before, have a go at this one. The painting screen recording is uploading right now and will be available to Wild Rose and Cherry Blossom Members

jut replying here too: Initially it was about doing timed paintings and finishing them but I’m also very keen that these sessions are very relaxed and can be what you make them. However, I think every now and then I will do a session like this as it’s a useful exercise
