Hi everyone! I hope you're well, I had a little time away from my desk this week which you will see on Youtube in vlog form on Thursday.

A Mini Micro Break!

In my 24 hour holiday, Crumble and I went to Westonbirt Aboretum and Lacock. Both provided such a wealth of painting inspiration. The buildings of Lacock are largely untouched and therefore provide the backdrop to many period dramas. We're going to paint this clock tower scene soon!

Travelling to other worlds

On Sunday, Ant ran a Dungeons and Dragons session for us and some friends. It's not my natural inclination but I've been enjoying trying something completely different and Ant is so good at it, it's a joy to watch! This is my little character facing off with a giant tree man!

Egg-citing painting!

This Easter I've decided to paint a chocolate egg instead of a Faberge one. There are lots of interesting skills to try for this one and I promise it's not actually that hard, it just looks impressive, but that foil is just a build up of lots of dabs of glaze. Starting this Wednesday for two sessions, ready for Easter.

The original and best

The tulip is the first project in my book New Botanical Painting and is out in bloom right now! I like to revisit this flower on Youtube, both for the sake of new painters and for more experienced painters to have a fun drill for water control. Getting those flowers to blend perfectly is no mean feat. You can have a go at this on Tuesday on Youtube!

I live in eastern Washington in the USA, we are a semi arid climate so I really enjoy seeing your photos. I have your book and have been working my way through the flowers, great practice. The foil on the egg looks so real, I can hardly wait to see how you accomplished that effect.

Hi Harriet, I have 3 of your books and have just watched your video about the short break and visit to Westonbirt Arboretum, and I enjoyed every minute of it. So afterward I decided to join your Patreon, and hope to learn more from you. I do understand the guilt thing too! I always make myself do housework first, in order to "earn" the right to spend time with my art. Then of course, there isn't enough time left in the day! Silly really. Thank you for the lovely video. A great start to my day.
