If you've been watching my recent tutorials you might have noticed a new piece of kit in my art supplies!
I've recently started working as a brand ambassador for Toms Studio - an independent designer, hand-crafting creative tools that look just as good as they perform. Their new watercolour range was the main reason for the collaboration BUT I have a Tom's Studio calligraphy pen that has sat languishing in my desk drawer for years. It is a bespoke pen that I commissioned back in the heyday of my wedding stationery business when I added modern calligraphy flourishes to my work on a daily basis. Time moves on and my focus shifted purely to watercolour painting and teaching - there was no more need for calligraphy...or was there?
When Spring comes round each year I'm presented with Snowdrops, Daffodils, tulips and blossom - flowers I've painted so many times and I love to find new ways of depicting them, for the sake of teaching new things and to keep myself inspired. This scratchy little nib has enabled a new light energy in my recent pieces. You can also see the nib at work in the brand new watercolour challenge of a gorgeous stone cottage.
If you would love to add a calligraphy pen to your collection then I can offer you 10% off at Tom's Studio using the code DEWINTONPAPERCO (affiliate link)
If you don't know where to start I would recommend the Nikko G Nib and the Original Flourish pen holder
When it comes to Toms Studio watercolour supplies, I received a lovely box of bits to try which I had an initial go at in a recent watercolour hang out. I'm going to do another test with them on Youtube very soon!
