Hi everyone, right now I'm at RHS Chelsea Flower show Press Day and I really look forward to sharing it all with you in the coming days. But this is what I've been getting up to this week.

Bluebell wood

Only last night, we had our monthly livestream class on the Cherry Blossom tier and painted this lovely Bluebell wood. I'm just going through your paintings on Discord and I'm blown away by the amazing pieces! I really enjoyed painting this with you. You can watch the recording back here right now!

May Day

This week's watercolour hang out was another seasonal celebration, featuring dancers around a maypole (as requested by you!). This was a really fun session with lots of people surprising themselves when they had a go at this new challenge. Why not have a go, watch the recording here!

Making a wonderful mess

There is a reason why I stick to watercolour...it's a pretty immediate result and I'm an impatient person! My iced biscuits are all my own work. I cant make the excuse the I was doing these with children! When I'm outside of my creative watercolour sphere I'm quite a chaos demon and I had so much fun making these as messily as I could. They taste great and there is a great freedom in being pretty bad at something and enjoying it all the same!

Hot Fuzz

Have you ever seen the brilliant British comedy Hot Fuzz? It's set in a fictional town called Sandford which is in fact the very beautiful Somerset city of Wells. I found myself here the other morning to teach a private watercolour workshop.

Ceanothus

I was teaching a class at Stoberry Park and Gardens, which boasts a stunning range of plants, trees and flowers, all looking wonderful this time of year. This blue flowering tree really caught my eye. I found out later it is a Ceanothus.

This week on Youtube

In slight contrast to the fairly complex livestreams this week, it's back to basics on Youtube with a look at the fundamentals of watercolour with Wet on Wet vs Wet on Dry bridge painting and a piece on finding your ideal brush to paint with. All very important stuff we should take time for even if we're more experienced painters.

On Patreon this week

A really fascinating look at mixing all manner of skin tones and how to paint simple faces.

Janet O'Connor

This is quite a beautiful collection of photos ! Thank you for sharing them. I have been out of the loop lately because of some health issues for my husband. I hope I can follow along soon.

With regards to the biscuits (or cookies as we American cousins say) there is no such thing as too many sprinkles!!

Phyllis

Your cookies look like they taste amazing! I’m anxious to paint the bridge! I have a picture of a bridge in City Park in New Orleans, close to where my daughter lives, that looks very much like that. I’ve Bennett’s meaning to paint it for awhile now. My daughter also took one of the same bridge last winter when we had that freak snowstorm. It’s beautiful ! Maybe I’ll post it on discord. Have fun at Chelsea!
