From My Camera Roll (Patreon)

Hi everyone, it's been another creative (and hot) week. I finished my current sketchbook and made a start on a new one and we've got some classic flower tutorials for you on youtube.

Hummingbirds

In our watercolour hang out this week we did three timed paintings of hummingbirds. Great practise for capturing the shape, proportions and movements of these beautiful birds. You can watch the recording back here.

Sunflower Wreath

On Tuesday we're painting one of the happiest flowers, the sunflower. Painting it in a wreath is a great opportunity to practise all our basic watercolour skills and make something really pretty in the process.

Couldn't be easier

With another back to basics on Youtube, this is a fun water control exercise to get you really pressing your brush and fanning out the bristles to make the quickest and simplest anemones. It's a step up from pure circles as a warm up but a really good option for a flower painting warm up.

Sketchbook tour!

As we've just finished a big painting project with the campervan, this week I'm doing a sketchbook tour of my latest finished one. It's such a nice video to look back at the last year in paintings that I (and you) have done!

Seascapes

This was a 'first page of a new sketchbook' morning and I decided to try out the Seascape Palette from Toms Studio (you can get 10% off with the code DEWINTONPAPERCO). It created some seriously fun blends and granulations that resulted in a lovely page of seaweed and shells...

which I filled my new etchr lab sketchbook with! It was nice to just fill a page with disparate shapes and not feel too much pressure for page 1!

The Drawing is done for you

I've enjoyed painting a few more pages of my art pad this week. For those of you who havent seen this, this is a pad of line drawings ready for you to just get on and paint! Hot pressed paper, making for a smooth and easy surface for watercolour paint. Great when you've not got time or energy for drawing and would just like to enjoy watercolour. They are available for pre order on Amazon wherever you are in the world, this is the UK link but just search for 'Harriet de Winton art pad and postcards' and you'll find it.
