Hi everyone, we are starting a new challenge today which is in two parts. It's a lovely, cosy little woodland scene but the key part of this, is I haven't given a line drawing guide because I think this is a wonderful opportunity to personalise this into a scene of your own with your choice of animals, details etc. Today is all about the drawing and basic washes.

This watercolour challenge is in two parts. This is part one.

The Art of Beatrix Potter

My main piece of advice is to slowly build up your colours in light glazes, allowing for lots of unpainted space to let the little details stay light. This is a piece with lots of small things, it's important not to overload them with colour.

You will need:

cold pressed watercolour paper (mine is 8x6 inches)

scrap paper to sketch on

hb pencil

hard and soft erasers

Brushes I used: mop, pointed round 8, 6, 4, 2, 0

Colours I used for part 1: Quinacridone Gold, Lemon Yellow, Permanent Orange, Moonglow, Raw Umber, Deep Sap Green, Green Gold, Sap Green Organic Vermillion.

Dont forget to share your painting process on Discord and on Social Media, tag us @dewintonpaperco!

Hi Kathryn, if you read the post you'll see why I'm not doing one for this challenge but as always I break down the drawing steps in the video.
