Hi everyone, here is the second and final part of our little woodland mouse house. Today is all about building up layers and finishing touches.

This watercolour challenge is in two parts. You can find part one here.

The Art of Beatrix Potter

My main piece of advice is to slowly build up your colours in light glazes, allowing for lots of unpainted space to let the little details stay light. This is a piece with lots of small things, it's important not to overload them with colour.

You will need:

your painting from last week

hb pencil

hard and soft erasers

calligraphy pen (get 10% off at Toms Studio with code DEWINTONPAPERCO)

Brushes I used: pointed round 8, 6, 4, 2, 0

Colours I used for part 1: Quinacridone Gold, Lemon Yellow, Permanent Orange, Moonglow, Raw Umber, Deep Sap Green, Green Gold, Sap Green Organic Vermillion.

Colours I used for part 2 in addition: Paynes Grey, Ivory Black, Yellow Ochre, Pyrrol Orange

Dont forget to share your painting process on Discord and on Social Media, tag us @dewintonpaperco!

Harriet, you said the book belonged to your grandmother whose last name was Dalrymple. I live in Louisiana, close to Baton Rouge. There is a main road in Baton Rouge named Dalrymple. There’s an exit for it off the interstate. That is definitely not a common name here! It’s such a small world!

Harriet I sent you an article about the man the street was named after. He was from Scotland. He is considered the father of veteranary medicine.
