Starting a new flower painting project!

Hi all, I hope you're enjoying the ever improving weather and maybe even getting outside to do some painting. Well done on your beautiful detailed roses, that was a big project and I'm aware that some of you may have a big backlog of projects to get through. That's why this week's watercolour challenge is a brief one; it's all about prepping a sketch for us to paint a lovely, full flower arrangement. We will be painting the piece over the next few weeks so take your time, watch the video through and get your sketch ready for next week when we begin painting!

If you're looking for the other parts of this challenge just check out the Watercolour Challenge Collection for challenge 39 & 40

This is a private youtube link which only you sweet pea and cherry blossom patrons have access to.

You will need

watercolour paper (my piece is roughly a4)

an HB pencil, or whatever your preferred sketching pencil is

After watching the video...

download the attached image

do a light sketch to get the basic shape and marking in the focal flowers.

Have a wonderful week and I look forward to painting with you in the coming weeks!

Harriet

I’m so excited about this one! The arrangement you chose is so British! Reminds me of my time in Flower School in London. Thank you for sharing your gift with us all ❤️

Is anyone else having an issue where the video goes black at 6 minutes?

Thanks Caroline, yes it does doesn't it. I will get Ant to look at this tonight and re upload it. Thanks so much for flagging that. I'm not sure why it's doing that but we will sort it!

Oh hang on. it's that the video actually ends at 5 minutes 46 and I'm not sure why there is then ten minutes extra! So you're not missing anything but I'll get Ant to fix it anyway

So I am quite sure it's me not knowing something very obvious...but I can't seem to open the picture attachments - can anyone spare a minute to suggest anything?

Just sitting down to pencil outa clematis and this one! I've done some roses but as usual need to do it again!

Hi Harriet! Question - when you were in the painting portion of this, were you looking at the reference the whole time? I need to look at references always and wondering if you (and maybe someday I) are able to do without or still look :) Thanks!

de Winton Paper co.

Well I had the reference present the whole time and I think I looked for the first three quarters of painting it. It's so good to keep your reference close but of course, when I'm teaching I want it to be as accurate as possible so probably I'd be looking a bit less if just doing it for myself!
