Hi everyone and welcome to our brand new watercolour challenge. This subject is both a suggestion from the You Choose Youtube feature and something I love to paint. We are going to create a shelf/mantelpiece scene with lots of lovely little objects/plants/books/anything you like! I've attached two images of shelves I painted recently.

We're starting by drawing the pencil sketch. I would love you to include some of your own favourite things. Dont worry if you don't know how to paint them yet, just comment below if you've included something you need some help with. If I receive those comments before next week I can help in the next part of the challenge!

Welcome to all our new Patrons, I hope you're finding your way around my Patreon ok. Don't forget, you can always send me a message if you have any specific questions. Discord is by far the best place for comments and tips on any paintings you've done as a result of the watercolour challenges as you can post your pictures and see how each other are getting on.

If you are new to painting then I highly recommend going back to the first watercolour challenges and working through the first through to get your basic techniques going. Then you can pick and choose whatever you like!

This is a private youtube link which only you sweet pea and cherry blossom patrons have access to.

You will need

A piece of watercolour paper, mine is 5 x 7 inches

an HB pencil

a ruler or set square

an eraser

After watching the video...

Make a list of things you would like to include in your painting.

Draw in the basic shapes of these things in a composition on your shelf!

Have a wonderful week.

This will be fun. I have a pet bunny I’d like to have on my shelf. I’d love to see an example. Also a camera would be awesome. Thank you

Will try to add in my ceramic owl money box, I don't have a mantle shelf but I have an imagination .

I have a collection of old French blue bottles on my mantel. They are various sizes and shapes, a bit smaller than modern wine bottles. I love the morning light through the blue glass. =)

I've also painted little personalized sketches for thank-you notes. Mine are not nearly as elegant as yours, yet the attempt is always appreciated by those I'm thanking. Please do more of these!

Sounds wonderful Emilie, people are just always so happy to receive anything that shows you thought about them
