Hi everyone! We're onto the next stage of the rural landscape scene, painting in the details from the distance. This is all about building up another layer of dilute colour but adding in more texture and shape.

We also learn little trick about mixing complementary colours together to create a muted palette!

Welcome to all our new Patrons, I hope you're finding your way around my Patreon ok. Don't forget, you can always send me a message if you have any specific questions. Discord is by far the best place for comments and tips on any paintings you've done as a result of the watercolour challenges as you can post your pictures and see how each other are getting on.

If you are new to painting then I highly recommend going back to the first watercolour challenges and working through the first through to get your basic techniques going. Then you can pick and choose whatever you like.

This is a private youtube link which only you sweet pea and cherry blossom patrons have access to.

You will need

Don't forget to share your paintings and works in progress on Discord and on Instagram using the #dwpcchallenge. By sharing your work you can ask questions of me or your fellow painters and inspire others to get painting!

Thank you for another lovely tutorial! I really like how the picture is coming into focus with the details. Can I just check which green mix you used where please? Do you highlight the little trees going up the hill in the sap green/paynes grey mix? And are you doing the big trees behind the right hand wall in the red/ green mix and then in paynes grey/sap green? Thank you very much!

green mix: sap green either with paines grey mixed in but I also talk about mixing a complimentary colour so I mixed some permanent rose in. That was what I first painted the trees in and then added the paynes grey green mix for the next layer. Same process for the big trees. First the complimentary colour mix for the first layer and then low lights with the paynes grey green mix
