Dear Patrons, Wow, what a special time we had yesterday on the very first watercolour hang out. Thank you to everyone who joined us, particularly those of you with extreme time differences (I think Robyn in Australia was the winner with a 4am time zone!)

For those of you who missed it, let me tell you all about it. The Watercolour hang out is a live Zoom call where we all sit down together and have a go at painting three photos over the course of 2 hours. I choose a theme each time and of course we had to start with flowers. I chose photos from the Patron's Discord thread and we were so lucky to have some of the photographers in the session who could tell us the story behind the image. The big difference in this session is I'm not teaching you, I am just there as a fellow watercolour enthusiast. The screen is entirely taken up by the reference photo and it's only at the end that we share our finished pieces (if you want to).

We chatted and laughed for two hours straight and it felt WONDERFUL.

I filmed my sketchbook separately for the duration and have uploaded it here if anyone is interested to see my process. I've also attached the photos we used so you can keep painting if you wish. I didn't realise it was rotated like this...I will try and sort that!

If you were there I would love you to comment below about your experience of the session.

My plan next week is to incorporate this new feature into the membership tiers: It will go into the Cherry Blossom tier with no change to the top tier fee. I will then create a brand new tier with a price point in between Sweet Pea and Cherry Blossom called Wild Rose. This tier will have all the Sweet Pea content as well as this once a month Watercolour hang out.

So The Cherry Blossom and Wild Rose tiers will have access to this new feature.

Thank you for a lovely 2 hours Harriet - you are a wonderful fun host! Everyone was so excited to be there, and spend some time with Harriet and the group so that we are no longer just names on the chat, but we can see actual human beings, and have some real time contact. I dont have Instagram, so it was a treat to hear Harriet in real time, and hear about her new book, and her life at home - say Hi to Ant for us! I loved that there was no pressure to do well with the photos/painting, just paint and hang out. There was no pressure to reveal yourself on screen either, you could just watch. I was so grateful to Harriet for her calming honesty and authenticity when she apologised beforehand for what might be her really naff last painting (except it wasnt - ha ha!). I have only started painting with Harriet in April, so my flower skills are still very beginner-ish - but no one was critical or intimidating, and it was a great reveal to see the finished paintings from everyone who showed them. It's wonderful to interact with other folks who share the same interests, and wasn't it interesting to find out about our 'outside-the-painting-space' lives, and to meet the adorable Crumble! I look forward to your new tiers Harriet, as I want to do this again, it was huge fun and very inspirational to see everyone else's amazing work, and I would recommend anyone to join in even if you are a beginner, because your confidence will soar afterwards! I am more than happy to be at different zoom times if it helps more people to join in, or even do it at the weekend? Maybe not at 4am though 🙈 Just a thought. Thank you again Harriet 💐🥰

Thanks Harriet and fellow Patreon Zoom painters from around the globe for such a delightful two hours of painting and chat. It was worth the 3:40 am alarm to share this time with you all, and share the wonderful creative results of our time together. Robyn from Australia… PS I went back to 🛌😴😴

Thank you for a wonderful fun, relaxing, and challenging painting session. I loved it. I think my biggest growth moment came when I realized I could make my own decisions about how to interpret the photo references. As a student painter, I tend to be a tutorial follower. However, this forced me out of my comfort zone in a safe and supportive environment. My favorite part though was painting in community with other painters. I paint alone and having others laughing and sharing stories around me was delightful. I loved this event and will certainly be joining in again. Thanks for your wonderful Patreon channel and Youtube videos. By the way, your three paintings from the session were so lovely! Have a great day.

I missed it, also. How do I get notified of upcoming sessions?

It sounded like everyone had a wonderful time. Beautiful paintings and warm friendships…who could ask for anything more. 😊

Barbara

Thank you Harriet, for a great painting session. I tend to be a tutorial follower and have only been painting since I retired a couple of years ago. My efforts were dismal but watching your approach now has taught me a lot.

It was also interesting that most of the Brits on the session, me included, were happy to listen to the chat without participating. So interesting to hear from the other painters. Looking forward to the next one.

I'm going to give it a try! Maybe this will be some good motivation and self-care for me to have a scheduled time to sit and paint with great company!
