Always liked this movie. Not the usual Hitchcock, and often not listed among his favorites. This movie is a statement about politics in the US and how the movie industry was forced to accept standards that were silly. That is why you never get to see the bathroom, as that was one of the taboos, so Hitchcock kept lingering the scene without showing the bathroom. The many veiled references to sex, some are easier to pick up on than others, is Hitchcock doing his best to damn the prudery of the film code and American society's pretense over the matter. This movie is packed full of subtle jabs at the hypocrisy that Hitchcock saw. The doctor represents the intellectual, who studies and studies but when he stumbles across the truth does not recognize it, or just dismisses it. And so forth.
