I like how you look at both perspectives when looking at characters, but at the end of the day, Ketil is still a slave master. The fact that he's nice doesn't necessarily make him a good person. He's better than most slave masters because he lets them buy back their freedom though. He's also a coward that lets his son and men call the shots.
