Over the last six months we've been working with artist Dave Dorman (Star Wars, Alien, GI Joe) on a poster for our upcoming show Liberty: Vigilance.

I (Travis) did my best to convey a fairly complicated cover by drawing the main characters in dynamic poses on a piece of paper, and using MS paint to clean up the lines... As you can see we have a lot of characters to fit in the image who are all primary roles on the show...

The above was accompanied by a paragraph of description for each figure (written by the player characters/voice actors), and concept art for all of the guns by Adam Cartwright, and fashion examples by Laurie Thomas.

Dorman shot back with his version of the composition a few weeks later, following my rough. It was already looking pretty cool, but he had a few personal gripes with it. The key to great composition, said Dorman, is to find a place where the eye can focus. The problem with the first design was that it was fairly flat, so you were not sure where to initially look.

The revised composition, which he sent over a month later, was a lot better than the original. It's the difference between good vs iconic. A few of the characters details we also fine-tuned from the first comp to the second. As you can see in the final image, there was very little that changed from the second sketch composition. We look forward to sharing the story with you in just over a month!
