Hey Everyone,

This is one part music 'making of' post, so I'm setting it to All Patrons. The rest of the Dark Dice soundtrack will be at the $10 level as we finish tracks. The Dark Dice Soundtrack has been a huge personal undertaking for me (Travis), coordinating musicians and composers from around the world. The songs will all feature live instruments, chiefly showcasing Long Neck Lutes, Hammered Dulcimer, and Hurdy Gurdy. Yup, we're going for a full medieval vibe!

Our credits theme started about a month ago, when I got the hurdy gurdy tracks. They were performed amazingly, just in their own time, meaning that it wasn't recorded to a click track (you can't easily count 1-2-3-4 to the song because it constantly changes time). I got the tracks the same hour that I got a phone call telling me that I was needed in Florida for the family emergency, and working on it over the last month has been really helpful for my mental state.

On the flight, I started by making a 'click track'. Each of the below blue flags represents a new time (BPM). As you can see it was a lot of work lining everything up perfectly (132.7bpm being oddly popular).

Next, I spent a bit of time programming three different drum tracks (and a cool church bell VST), using actual recordings from drums that trigger digitally through EZ Drummer. So as I typed the rhythm on my keyboard, actual drum recordings play at the same time. My rhythm also was adjusted slightly to match the click track as close as possible.

After that, Sam Boase-Miller from the Marsfall podcast recorded 4 cello tracks, and I added live accordion drones throughout the entire song. Brandon Strader just finished mixing it today. The result is two variations (the first and second half) of the ending credits theme. We hope that you enjoy it!

Update: This theme has since become synonymous with The Silent One and we've renamed the tracks 'Journey from Ilmater's Hope' (part 1) and Danse Siencieuse (part 2).

I really like this. It sets such a great mood. Nice work!!

Since you guys are based in Portland now, this recording really makes me want to suggest Billy Oskay as a future possible resource. He owns and operates Big Red Studio in Corbett. While an outstanding violin player himself (he was a founding member of Night Noise), he tends to draw a pretty musically diverse clientele. I interned at Big Red for about a year several years ago. Billy's a good dude.

this sounds somewhat like my favorite band, The Secret Chiefs 3 great work

This is my new favorite thing. If I didn’t have to sleep, I’d be looping this for hours.

Tav Griffin

An absolute banger and a jam to boot. I cannot stop listening

Compassion Is Punk

Not going to lie, the music to dark dice is the reason I'm a patron. It's absolutely amazing, and the effort put into creating it is so obvious. Absolutely phenomenal.

Once again folks (Fool & Schalor), you have shown that small production studios can run abreast of and even ahead of the larger production studios in terms of scope, diversity and quality. Keep up the fantastic work and I continue to look forward to supporting your endeavours.

I agree with the looping. I am currently doing so on my trip out shopping.. 🙃

Thanks Ikos! :) We have much more music to share, and soon. I'm going to be posting songs weekly for the next while.
