The archaeological team continues their excavation efforts and further ponders the true age of their current findings. Working in the wind and rocky terrain, they make more than one shocking discovery, revealing more than previously imagined at their Patagonian site.

This week, during the sound design phase, I spent an extra two hours trying to make every scene so much better, but nothing I did seemed to help. The recordings sounded hollow, the wind sounded weak, I felt like I was losing my sanity, and nothing seemed to help... I recorded & added a half dozen sounds for rope, rocks, water, walking, but nothing helped. Then I plugged my headphones in all the way and everything sounded great.

You're in for a treat this week!Fun fact 2: This episode was mixed today while flying across the country on a 9-hour flight.

Maybe you should do the sound design with your headphones half plugged in all the time😂 thanks travis. Also, isn't this supposed to be episode 3.3?

Brave soul listening to the Fool and Scholar at night. Seriously great episode though, can't wait to see what horrors lie within!

Dude you already do such an amazing job with the sound design on every episode that I’m sure it gets easier all the time but really, challenging yourself with half plugged in headphones seems a bit masochistic. 😉 Seriously though thank you to both you and Kaitlin for this podcast. It’s a joy to listen to (yes, I honestly meant joy even though it’s a horror story). And I don’t know how much of an effort it was recording the theme with the choir but it makes the theme exponentially more spooky. Love love love it.

I'm so loving the Piedra theme. It sounds so gorgeous. Plus this season is already so intriguing.

I'm a big fan of White Vault and the way you do your sound design. In season 2 you balanced the various foreign languages and the English translations beautifully. Enough Icelandic to set a stage and identify the character but not enough to overwhelm. In season 3 you're leaning toward the overwhelm side of the spectrum. I've lived in the Southwest most of my life and have enough familiarity with Spanish that I can generally follow what's going on, as long as the wind isn't too loud (more on this later), but the long untranslated passages do become burdensome. About the wind, I'm 69 years old and my hearing isn't as good as it used to be. Loud white noise, like wind, interferes with my comprehension of speech, making it a strain to listen. A lower level on wind noise would be appreciated and wouldn't detract from the setting. Thank you for all your hard work. I appreciate you.

I also found the non English intro into scenes a little long winded. In fact I haven’t finished episode 4 because it feels like I don’t know anyone and nothing is really happening. Though I will listen, maybe I’m just a bit audio worn out at the moment.
