''And from those long shadows, toiled over through time, the truth both awesome and terrible was revealed...''

Our worlds and games have grown to hundreds of pages, our stories and myths, weaved across hours and days. And soon our horrors will be made flesh: Unnatural Horrors, a compendium of our world and its terrors, launches itself forward!

In short, we here at Fool & Scholar Productions are partnering with Nord Games to co-publish a high-quality, hardcover, 300+ page horror expansion for 5th Edition (Dungeons & Dragons) aptly named Unnatural Horrors.

If you're interested in supporting us as we bring our first book to print, please click "Notify Me on Launch" on our Kickstarter launch page, and please share this link with your friends, so we can get a better indication of how much we can do with this book. The more people who express their interest, the more things we can do with it; embossing, a dust cover, a DM screen; extra details that will cost more but make for a cooler experience overall are solely dictated by the Kickstarter's popularity. What will Unnatural Horrors Contain? This book will be a MASSIVE tome of horror content falling between 300-400 pages (interest and format pending as, again, this is our first foray into book publishing). It showcases amazing original artwork on virtually every page by a team of over 20 artists. The tome is currently planned to include:

ADVENTURE: Domain of the Nameless God (Expanded with new content for repeat playability) - Our best selling horror adventure for 3rd-5th level players

ADVENTURE:Shores of the Silver Thrum - Our new nautical/winter horror adventure

Over 20 minutes of "Found Footage" Audio for Shores of the Silver Thrum, brought to life by a full voice cast

16 New Battle Maps by Brave New Worlds

Class: The True Necromancer - (Expanded & revised) Don't just study the secrets of life and death, command them as a True Necromancer

Class Option: Circle Beyond the Void (Druid Subclass) - Commune with otherworldly entities and logic-defying spaces in the dark reaches beyond the stars

The d100 "Lethal"Critical Hit Chart

Ominous Magic Items - Power at a cost

A huge Bestiary of terrible fiends

Expanded Rules for Sanity & Skills Challenges - As stress mounts and characters grow exhausted, they may be prone to... mistakes...  Additional rules for using skills to overcome challenges such as traps, natural disasters, or chases!

Expanded Rules for Hypothermia - Cold? Freezing? These simple rules make adventures into freezing locales more dangerous when Travel is Not Advised...

A new Character Sheet that includes the above special rules

Why Kickstarter? Our Patreon exists to allow us to create top-tier audio stories and release them to our fans around the globe. Therefore we intend to use Kickstarter to pay for the book, which will include printing costs, formatting, more. This book will not be funded by Patreon because this is not an audio project, and its release is a collaboration between us and our co-publisher (Nord Games). Unnatural Horrors was created from a separate income source (described below), and we felt it was more than appropriate to be transparent about these important differences to the people who matter the most - you.

In the waking hours between audio production, for the last few years, we've been working on a number of books. You've probably seen us delightedly cheer that Domain of the Nameless God became a Platinum best seller, or that we were adding more things to the True Necromancer, or preparing to release the PDF for Shores of the Silver Thrum. These digital book projects started off as a hobby we created using stock, free, and creative commons art, and as more and more copies sold, we used that income to commission artwork and invested time into making them better. Gradually things shifted and by chance (or fate) we had a discussion with Nord Games that will allow us to bring our most popular stories to print.

But the biggest thing right now is that we need enough people to click "Notify Me on Launch" so we have an indication of interest before our campaign goes live. The more people who do this, the more we'll have prepared when we launch, so if you have interest, please consider clicking "Notify Me on Launch" and sharing this link with your friends.

We are overly excited to finally bring these stories, game mechanics, and monsters to the print world, as so many patrons, fans, and players alike have asked this of us over the years.

Sometimes nightmares do come true... Do you seek it?

This sounds incredible! Acknowledging the many variables which could significantly impact the date, do you have a vague idea of when a successfully funded book could see release? 2024? 2025? I love how F&S has been extending its grasp into new arenas. Y'all are the coolest.

We hope to have physical books in peoples' hands by June, 2024, and certain digital goods out (in WIP form) much sooner.

I’m definitely tracking this! Very excited!

Ooo la la! What a generous ambition! Second question, more for your personal opinion: I've only ever played one D&D campaign before, the Curse of Strahd, and we're coming up on the final confrontation. I've told my very hard-working GM I'd like to give him a break by trying my hand at running a short campaign. Would you consider Domain appropriate for first-time GMs? Are there any others you think would be a good place for me to start?

Fool & Scholar Productions

Domain is a great starter campaign because there are so few variables and NPCs that you have to contend with. The biggest thing to look out for is accidentally killing them all, but those rooms are appropriately marked so you know what to watch out for. Another great one is Wild Sheep Chase (comedy) or if you have any of the other adventure books - the opening chapters are generally a self-contained oneshot, such as Death House or Storm King's Thunder's opening chapter, or any of the adventures that come with the starter set one-shots. I'm also partial to the Tomb of Crossed words for a 1-shot puzzle adventure. For something small but longer than 1-shot any of the Tales from the Yawning Portal adventures are AWESOME except the last chapter - Tomb of Annihilation - which is not really fun to play for most people. I'm biased toward the Lost Tomb of T(Aztec-style name), White Plume Mountain, or the opening adventures. Those are all fairly easy to run. Lastly, Ghosts of Saltmarsh is a slightly more involved series of self-sustained adventures that tend to have a bit more NPC involvement but are quite fun!

Wow dude, I was suh-weating this decision pretty badly and I am so grateful to have your recommendations. Thank you!

When can we donate to this? Or am I just late to the party?
