The (Back)Story of Apocalypse (Patreon)
Content
It was about 15 months ago that I started producing Apocalypse. It was started under a different name and never released. It was a story I really wanted to tell. I thought it was interesting. A group of people facing insurmountable odds.
So for about a year I started producing content for this new game. Renders, dialog, etc. The idea being that the player can choose who they want to become then engage in the actual story. It was done though menu choices at the beginning that had only a few renders to explain the story with some flashbacks to solidify that story.
It really didn't work.
It felt disjointed and made little sense. So I put the game on hold and started to reevaluate it. The story was good and content was pretty good but the backstory element was what sucked.
That's when I decided not to make the backstory just a few images and menu choices but give the player a chance to actually play the backstory. Essentially a game inside a game. This backstory is what you are playing now. The 'Prologue' chapters.
I've got about 2.5gig worth of content rendered that is ready to enter the game proper but needs context and story to allow it to make sense. That's where we are at now. The main story is the goal but the journey to it is just as important. Rather than a main character that just 'exists' and you jump on from there, you will shape the main character in more ways than any other game.
That's what I wanted for Apocalypse and now, with your support, it actually happening! Thank you so much. This story isn't going to die, it's just beginning.
