Time to check out HELLO DOLLY FROM 1969. Recorded few years back but here is it, perfect time with my rewatch of Wall-E with Clariss.

In the 1890s New York City, the bold and enchanting widow Dolly Levi (Barbra Streisand) is a socialite-turned-matchmaker. Her latest clients seeking assistance are the cantankerous half-a-millionaire Horace Vandergelder (Walter Matthau) and a young artist named Ambrose (Tommy Tune), who is in love with Horace's niece, Ermengarde (Joyce Ames). Dolly's scheming soon involves Horace's employees as well as a New York hatmaker, as she tries to cover up her own secret romantic designs.

So this film was basically the last big hurrah for the gigantic budget movie musical and at the time was one of the most (if not the most) expensive films ever made. Earning 26 million against a 25 million dollar budget. The film would though go on to be regarded as a classic years later and have it’s fans including me. The film would be nominated for a total of seven Academy Awards including Best Picture, but only win for Art Direction, Score for a Musical film, and Sound. The film’s producer Ernest Lehman was also the screenwriter and also wrote the screenplays for notable films such as Sabrina, The King and I, Sweet Smell of Success, North by Northwest, West Side Story, and The Sound of Music. Barbra Streisand would receive some flack for playing a character that is supposed to be this older woman while she is only twenty-six when filming (originally on broadway by Carol Channing who was forty-three when she did the role on stage), but I have no issue with Barbra as Dolly and she is so charming and likable The gold dress that Barbra wore during the big title number weighed nearly forty pounds.

Hello, Dolly!- Thank you so very much for your marvelous reaction to this phenomenal and beautiful musical I absolutely love, Timothee!! I absolutely loved watching this classic musical I love so much again with you! And I am happy you really enjoyed it as well! :) Barbara Streisand and Walter Matthau are fantastic throughout this movie!! So are Marianne McAndrew (Irene Malloy) and E.J. Parker (Minnie Fay)! However, both Michael Crawford (Cornelius Hackl) and Danny Lockin (Barnaby Tucker), in my opinion, steal the show!! Don't get me wrong... Both Barbara Streisand and Walter Matthau are incredible and so, so good!!! However, Michael Crawford is so talented, and absolutely hilarious! And what a voice!! And Danny Lockin is an incredible dancer!!! You may not believe this from his phenomenal performance as the loveable goofball he is here in Hello, Dolly!, but Michael Crawford is also the original actor to play the Phantom, in The Phantom of the Opera on Broadway alongside the original actress playing Christine Daae... Sarah Brightman. And what a voice!!! I absolutely love Michael Crawford!! Both as Cornelius Hackl and as the Phantom!! And I highly that you purchase yourself a copy of the original cast recording of The Phantom of the Opera on Broadway so that you can hear Michael Crawford's magnificent performance as the Phantom!! You won't regret it! :) The music and dancing throughout this classic musical is absolutely outstanding, and sensational!!! As are all of the costumes!!! And my goodness can Barbara Streisand out talk anyone if she puts her mind to it! But her voice as Dolly Levi is just so incredible!! And she looks like a million dollars!! Absolutely gorgeous!! I was planning on requesting this classic for you, and I think we may have talked about it, but you might have mentioned that someone else already beat me to requesting it first. So, I didn't, but I am so happy you could see this movie and react to it for us all to enjoy too!! Thank you very much, Timothee!! :) Sincerely, Heidi

Me too!!! There is just something so special and unique about these classics. Movies were so different back then compared to today. I enjoy good movies from today too, of course. However, the classics are just more wholesome and feel good. And I love them for this! :) Thank you, Timothee!! :) Sincerely, Heidi
