Mother’s Little Helper- Thank you so much for another fantastic reaction to this fun episode of Once Upon a Time, Tim! I really enjoy this episode a lot! I really love three of the four overall storylines throughout this episode! From the major storyline between Emma, Gideon, Rumple, and Belle, as well as the overall backstory between Gideon and the Black Fairy, to Killian's storyline in both the Enchanted Forest and Neverland with Black Beard, and to Henry's storyline with Regina and the Author. I will say that the backstory between Gideon and the Black Fairy, as well as the storyline between Rumple and Belle, are my least favorite of the four storylines within this episode, but they're certainly still enjoyable!! And I absolutely love the Black Fairy as a villainess! I love the other two storylines for sure! First... My favorite scenes within this episode, are hands down all the scenes between Hook and Black Beard!!! Like I've spoken of before under your reactions for all past episodes with Black Beard in them... I actually quite enjoy Black Beard as a villain!! He's not at all one of the smartest villains within this show. Not in the slightest. But he's a very entertaining character. And the actor who plays him... Charles Mesure, is fantastic! I think he's a lot of fun! And I absolutely love, love, love the banter back and forth between Hook and Black Beard!!! Their dynamic is hilarious!! I also love how Killian outsmarts Black Beard in their card game in order to get him to give up his magic bean, even if Killian's plan to get home to Storybrooke doesn't quite work out how he hopes. Killian outsmarts Black Beard to get the bean, knowing Black Beard's arrogance and penchant for cheating so he can always try to stay ahead of his enemies, recognizing quickly that he had cheated at their game so Black Beard could beat him. And the card game between them is fun to watch! Unfortunately... Thanks to Gideon's protection spell he has cast on Killian in order to keep him from returning to Storybrooke no matter his efforts to get home, Killian and Black Beard have now both become trapped in Neverland among the worst of the Lost Boys, who had stayed behind on their island after Hook and our heroes left Neverland back in season three's episode, titled... Save Henry. And now... Killian has to outrun these Lost Boys and survive. In regards to why Neverland is now light... If you remember back to season three's episode, titled... Good Form, in Hook's backstory within this episode, we actually see that Neverland is light way back then as well. And the reason why, is because Pan's dark magic had yet to corrupt the island, given that he hadn't been there in Neverland too long before Killian first arrived in Neverland with his brother, Liam. And now... It's because Pan has died and therefore the island is no longer corrupted by his evil and dark magic. Killian explains this to Black Beard while they're running away from the Lost Boys. As for Emma's and Gideon's present day storyline... Overall, I enjoy it. I especially love the opening scene, when Emma confronts Gideon and demands he bring Killian back to her. Emma is dark and cold, in a way that we don't really see her act throughout the rest of the show. We see a little of this when she's the Dark One, but not like this moment. And it's absolutely brilliant! I love Emma in this moment! And I quite love this side of her. I love seeing her fight for Killian! And this is really the first moment within this season so far that I actually really like Gideon as a character. That I actually come to care more about him and feel badly for him. Especially in the ending when we finally learn why Gideon is so obsessed with trying to kill Emma. The fact that the Black Fairy has ripped out his heart and is controlling him with it in her possession, makes his motives that much more understandable, and makes Gideon far more sympathetic. Because before he was just obsessed with wanting to kill Emma, believing that doing so would be his way of becoming the new Savior. Now, we know this isn't the truth at all. Because now we know that Gideon has been forced to say and do all that he's done so far by the Black Fairy. And I really appreciate a good backstory for a villain. Including Gideon's true motives for wanting to kill the Black Fairy as well. Gideon's backstory is sad. Seeing all the pain he's been through at the Black Fairy's hands is rough. Especially when we see her kill Gideon's friend, Roderick. Although... I will say that I've never been a big fan of Gideon too much until now, to really let it affect me as much as it should. He's still a little too wishy washy, even though we know now that the Black Fairy has his heart and is controlling him. I didn't expect this twist in his story. However, I did expect Gideon to betray Emma again, and so I wasn't at all shocked when he leaves Emma behind to die at the hands of the spider. I'm just glad Rumple arrives when he does to save her. Also... I hate spiders! Yuck!!! Too bad Rumple and Belle now appear to be against Emma and the other heroes, because they believe they're alone in trying to save their son. I understand that they want to protect Gideon above all else. However, Emma and Snow are also right that Gideon has once again turned on Emma. and no one yet knows that he's under the Black Fairy's control. Emma never threatened Gideon, and she certainly doesn't want to kill him. But she needs to defend herself against him should he attempt to kill her again. And Belle and Rumple should both be more understanding of this. Again... They should all just continue to work together to save him, or defeat him in any way they can without hurting Gideon obviously. As for the Black Fairy... She is a brilliant villain and quite evil, which I love! I quite love Jaime Murray in this role too. She's a great actress, and she plays the Black Fairy brilliantly! Also... Remember that Pan is Rumple's father, and we learn in this season that the Black Fairy is Rumple's mother. Which means that she and Pan were once together, some time before Pan ever became Pan. Back when he was still Malcolm. And lastly... It is quite a surprise to see Isaac, the previous Author from the Queens of Darkness arc in season four, once again. And I love seeing Isaac brought back into this show after all this time too!! This smaller storyline is the smallest of the four within this show, but I quite love seeing Isaac's return, and seeing Regina and Henry come to him for information about why Henry's Author powers are starting to become unstable. And boy... Do I love the snarkiness between Isaac and Regina. Their banter back and forth is terrific! I especially love Isaac's nod to Broadway's... Hamilton, knowing just how tough getting tickets for this Broadway show has been ever since it opened many years ago now due to its enormous popularity. Fabulous!! :) Thank you once again, for another great reaction, Timothee!!! Sincerely, Heidi
