The Black Fairy- Thank you so much, Tim!!! I really quite enjoy this episode a lot too! Except that Rumple once again chooses the side of evil, after everything. Ugh!!! Yes... Rumple can certainly be very, very frustrating throughout this show. Seeing him make the wrong choices yet again within this episode, especially upon him wanting to so much to protect his son and his wife from all evils that includes his mother... He is so infuriating!! love him, but... Wow!! With this being said... Rumple originally being born and destined to become the Savior, is an absolutely brilliant twist that I certainly didn't see coming at all! What an absolute shock this was! And I really love this episode a lot, thanks to this twist, as well as for the overall backstory showing us how Rumple's mother comes to be the Black Fairy, and how she comes to be banished into the Dark Realm!! She may think all she is doing is out of love for her son, but just like Rumple knows all too well... She chose evil and her magic over everything including her son. Just like Rumple has done many times, even over his own sons too. Regarding viewers' dislike, or perhaps apprehension with there being more than one Savior, as well as more than one Dark One... I understand it no doubt. Because I initially felt this way too. However, I quickly came to love the whole Dark Ones arc and the origins of all Dark Ones shown throughout season five with Dark Swan and Dark Hook, because it all turned out to be quite a phenomenal story arc throughout this show!! Sadly, it's taken me longer to really love that there are multiple Saviors as well. Especially with Rumple being revealed to have been destined to be a Savior too. Of all the characters throughout Once Upon a Time. However, in time I have certainly done so. I grew to accept it all, and came to like it more and more, because the Savior is a destiny and a title that is only passed on when the previous Savior dies, or they are severed from their destinies to be the Savior, like both Rumple and Aladdin have been, as we see through the power of the Shears of Destiny. And I really like that Aladdin had been a Savior for some time, until he sadly cuts away his own destiny using the shears to save his life. With Rumple... I do like this revelation of him being destined to be the Savior until his mother destroys his destiny to be one, but Rumple is certainly no Savior. And I don't like this idea of him being a Savior quite as much as Emma and Aladdin being one. I do enjoy this twist. It's just that the title isn't deserved by Rumplestiltskin after all the darkness and pain he has caused. And I don't like that Emma calls him Savior in the end, when he isn't. I can't believe anyone actually trusts him after everything he's done to them for a long time now, just upon learning about this truth. It's a little frustrating. However, overall... I find all of the Savior lore and the Dark Ones lore very fascinating! In regards to Fiona becoming the Great Evil born to destroy her own son... Fiona doesn't create all the evil throughout the world. Evil most certainly existed before she was ever born. Just like we see with Nimue becoming the first ever Dark One hundreds of years before Rumple and Fiona were ever born, given that Merlin and Nimue are hundreds of years older than most characters all throughout this show. Nimue became the first Dark One ever upon murdering the evil being who killed her family and her people from her village in punishment because she had drank from the Holy Grail beforehand. The Dark Ages and Medieval Ages still occurred within our world before their time. And so on and so forth. Evil has always existed in every world and realm, because we as humans, as well as all of these fairy tale characters and creatures within all other realms are flawed, and sometimes chooses to do wicked and evil things, even with the intentions of doing what is best for us and our loved ones. Fiona simply becomes the first ever dark fairy, and the Great Evil destined to kill her own son, because of her dark and cruel choices. She is not the first evil in the world. The Great Evil is simply a name that she becomes destined as, upon her choices to rip her son away from his destiny and upon her choosing to do evil by ripping out Tiger Lily's heart in order to do everything in her power to keep her dark magic and to cast the first ever dark curse she created, not Rumple. Even if her dark choices truly are made with the sincerest of intentions to protect her son. Also... Tiger Lily was Rumple's Fairy Godmother before Fiona altered her son's destiny. And technically, she still is. However, Tiger Lily gave up her wings upon failing him and his mother, and therefore she gives up her destiny to remain his Fairy Godmother. But before this, Tiger Lily was a part of Fiona's, Rumple's, and Malcolm's (Pan) family, as she was Rumple's Fairy Godmother. And while this episode's backstory sadly doesn't focus much at all on Fiona's love for, or her relationship with Tiger Lily, I have to believe that Fiona did love Tiger Lily up until her own darkness fully consumed her. And so yes... I have to believe that her love for Tiger Lily would have allowed for the crushing of Tiger's Lily's heart to be powerful enough for Fiona to cast the dark curse. And now... I really like that we get to see Rumple's backstory from when he was a baby, with Fiona, Malcolm, Blue, and Tiger Lily! It's all so fascinating. And Fiona becomes the Great Evil herself, fighting desperately to save her son, making it so that she and Rumple would have been destined to fight one another in the final battle. Although... No longer. I can definitely understand why Fiona has done all she's done, because she loved her son so much and feared for his life. She still seemingly appears to love her son. However, this most certainly does not excuse all the evil she's committed, and the evil she's now become. As for the origin and meaning behind Malcolm calling his son Rumplestiltskin, upon him coming to blame his son for his wife's death and upon him growing to hate his son... The name Rumplestiltskin is simply the cruelest and most derogatory name Malcolm could come up with at the time, as a reminder to him of all the pain Rumple "causes" him upon losing the love of his life because she "died" to protect their son. The origin of the name comes from the Brothers Grimm's original fairy tale of Rumplestiltskin... His name is a German name referring to goblins and other vile creatures that make noises and cause mischief. Very interesting. I love it! And yes... This is the beginning of Malcolm falling so far that he eventually comes to be Peter Pan about eight or so years later as well. We can already begin to see his hate for his son in his eyes upon him giving his son his name. So cruel. Yikes!!! :) Now... I really love the whole overall backstory and present day storyline centered around the Black Fairy and Rumple above mostly everything else in this episode!! It's so good! However, I have to say... My favorite line within this episode is said by Zelena just after she hits the Black Fairy with her car. "Driving isn't so hard when you're actually trying to hit something." Ha! Ha! Ha! I laughed so hard at this scene when I first saw it back when this episode first aired on television, and I still laugh now every time I see this moment again and again! I love Zelena so much!!! :) Also... I really love the sisterly moments between Zelena and Regina throughout this episode, as Regina is trying to teach her sister how to drive, then when they're talking about Zelena taking Robin and Henry should the final battle go badly. I love seeing them as sisters, and being able to see how much love for one another has grown between these two amazing witches I love so, so much!! And lastly... I absolutely love, love, love the moment in the ending between Killian and Henry, as Killian adorably asks Henry to be his best man!!! So amazing!!! They have indeed been through so much together, and they are truly the best of friends, as well as soon to be father and son. And the moment between Killian and Emma right afterwards is really beautiful too!! I love them together so, so very much!! I love it!!! :) Overall... I really love this episode!! I'm still just disappointed in Rumple once again. He has once again lied to everyone upon him handing over a fake burned up heart to our heroes by claiming it to belong to the Black Fairy. And while he is truthful with Belle and Gideon about doing everything he does for them, no matter how inapparent it might seem at the time, he has still lied to them about being the hero and Savior this night. Not good. Thank you again for another fabulous reaction for a great episode, my dear friend! Sincerely, Heidi
