Time to check out the Little Shop of Horrors released in 1986.

CONTEXT

Meek flower shop assistant Seymour (Rick Moranis) pines for co-worker Audrey (Ellen Greene). During a total eclipse, he discovers an unusual plant he names Audrey II, which feeds only on human flesh and blood. The growing plant attracts a great deal of business for the previously struggling store. After Seymour feeds Audrey's boyfriend, Orin (Steve Martin), to the plant after Orin's accidental death, he must come up with more bodies for the increasingly bloodthirsty plant.

Audrey is played by Ellen Greene who you just saw as Jane's road trip buddy Louise in 'Naked Gun 33 1/3'.

Oh yeah man! This was always one of my favorite musical movies since my early 90's childhood.

Jim Schmitz

Hi, Timmee, looking forward to this one.

Ya know you posted the alternate ending version which isn't the original happy ending one.

David Patterson

This movie was based on a musical stage play which was based off of a 1960 non-musical movie. The version you watched was what was first shot. The ending aligns with the ending of the play, but test audiences disliked the deaths of the 2 main characters, so a happy ending was filmed. Director Frank Oz said that his saddest day of this film was telling the model builder that all his hard work wound up onthe cutting room floor, and his happiest day was calling him decades later to tell him it was being restored.

I love this movie! Well to be honest I love like 80% of this movie so much that I will tolerate the other 20%. The dentist stuff, even though Steve martin is playing it cartoony, the patients acting and screaming is played straight and so extreme its not fun or funny its just torture scenes thrown in to a goofy musical. Like nothing else in the movie matches that level of tone, its weird. Long story long, it traumatized me as a child, and I don't like it to this day lol. Also the ending gets a little long and drawn out to me even in the original shorter version. But everything else makes up for it. To this day I have never seen puppetry move so well as when the audrey 2 is talking, sure the tentacles can be a little clunky and puppet-y but the mouth I swear is literally better than CGI could do today its crazy. And the music most of all of course, its just so good, I mean it's pre-disney Alan Menken and Howard Ashman they were such a crazy good team.
