Thank you, Michael!

Yup I feel like 2008 was an inflection point, after which everyone stopped pretending that it’ll get better for everyone. Before 2008 everyone was playing the “everyone’s standard of living will get better” game. It’s sad that this isn’t discussed and I’m sure it’s broken lots of brains of my generation.

isn't this basically the ruling class collective version of what freud termed death drive? ie not the drive to die but rather the drive to cling to what is familiar even if it kills you

Michael McGroarty

It is immensely sorrowing being in an ending. We are crowded into a court with the perpetrators of these systems, and our punishment is the same as theirs. And we’ll die without the luxuries that never made any of it worth it anyway. But they will. What is the image on this episode page, Michael?

The tradition of Klaus Barbie weighs like a nightmare on the brain of the living

My Q ain’t germane to the episode at hand, but has Judge ever talked about Cormac McCarthy?

I'm reading Gravity's Rainbow. I paused your podcast and went to read a little more... and immediately came upon the passage you quoted. Which feels... meaningful? Big rich books seem to trigger synchronicities.

If you were worried that you didn't get your point across in part 1, you can relax, it's painfully clear, and spot on. Great ep. I watched They Live a few weeks ago on a whim, and I've been thinking about Zizek a lot since. I think he's mostly full of shit, but I will say that it's good that he's pushed his conception of ideology as the nature of reality as endorsed by the power structure that we all unconsciously absorb and that most people will never see beyond. Because that, as you make clear, is what will allow them -- us -- to drive the fucking car off a cliff. The cliff will be obvious, but all the signs will tell us to hit the gas, so we will

Ppl are loosing their minds on tik Tok over that Jeff guy who built a platform on tik Tok and then voted to shut it down. Like be so ffr. Aipac paid him literally less than $8k and he voted to shut down one of the biggest platforms that is pro Palestine, pro union, organizing boycotts etc. It is straight up insane that our politicians will take campaign money what is less than one semester in college or have been to Epstein Island 🏝️

As LaForgue said, All's well that has no end.

is there any sort of reading list of literature that you've compiled over the course of making this show? You're such a skilled speaker it still leaves me with much to think about, but it seems like a daunting task to fully catch up to what you're evoking in a specific point. much love

For what it’s worth, I live in Madison Wi and there are images of Aaron Bushnell posted all over. Not everyone has stopped talking about him!

I know you said on Twitter you haven’t seen Zone of Interest and don’t plan on it, but it’s about exactly what you’re talking about when you talk about what’s lacking from the “typical Holocaust film” (feels disgusting to say now that I’ve typed it out), it’s full of the economic and bureaucratic aspects of the reich, and intentionally bears similarities to how systems work in neoliberalism. On top of that it portrays Nazis as sniveling little rat fucks who are climbing over each other in the shit heap to get even *noticed* by anyone above them in ranking by making presentations on how “productive” and “efficient” they are. Hard to recommend to anyone with a conscience but I think everyone SHOULD see it

Does anybody know where I can find Michael's novels? And maybe a recommendation for a good entry into his work?

Michael means The Last World as the last iteration of a present that can’t replicate itself into another framework, correct? Not that the present framework broke the breaks and we’re just careening?English isn’t my first language, I can follow along with Michael’s broad analysis but I always struggle grasping the thesis of his episodes
