Testing the waters... How much "past" is too much?

  • The Buried Secret: She hates him and fears her husband finding out, but she can't resist her old 'conditioning'. 43
  • The Pure Route: I prefer her to be 100% pure, with the corruption starting from scratch (Classic NTR). 104

Hi everyone!

As I lay the foundation for what’s coming next, I’d love to get your thoughts on a narrative concept I’ve been developing.

How do you feel about a female lead who appears to be the perfect, pure wife to her husband... but hides a dark secret from her youth? A special lover or a 'mentor' who sexually trained her long before she met her husband, and who suddenly reappears to reclaim his 'creation'.

What’s your preference for this trope?

I like both in equal measure, but I feel the first option is less used so I'd love to see your take on it. That being said, I think the "buried secret" doesn't land well if it's just boring old blackmail - especially the illogical kind. What is the secret? If she just had a past relationship before meeting her current husband, then is it really a secret that can lead to blackmail? People have multiple partners over a lifetime. I much prefer the stories where the female lead falls to the "old mentor" simply because he's better. In summary: She had an old relationship that was sexually fulfilling but emotionally wrong, and then moved on and is now married; She genuinely loves her husband; She isn't afraid of any "secret" and isn't being blackmailed; She is, however, sexually dissatisfied because her husband can't match up to the previous guy. The fact that the female lead is fully aware of both options from the start (amazing sex with bad guy vs. happy married life with meh sex) makes her inner struggle and ultimate choice far more impactful. In the Pure Route it's usually just framed as "oh I didn't know sex could be this good, now I can't go back". But if she DOES know? Then it's actually a choice. Than it's actual moral corruption. Just my two cents.

I agree with CravingStarDamage’s point about exploring the 'dark past' route, as it’s a concept rarely seen in NTR. I think the role of the 'mentor'—who trained her in the past and pushed her to do everything—should be the Agency Director, leveraging his rank and authority. You could make it so that Aegis always harbored many fetishes that she only felt comfortable unleashing with the Director; with him, she felt 'understood' and knew she wouldn't be judged. In contrast, after getting married, all those forbidden desires had to be repressed because Julian found them strange or even off-putting. This leaves Chelsea longing for the raw ecstasy and lust she only experienced with the Director.

I've only liked the Dark Past story if it's with someone close to her partner, like a friend or a relative.
