The wire attached to the iron ball and handle is high-quality Baramorian wire-weave, and the method of its construction is unknown outside of their secret forges. Kass has had it since he was a child. It wasn't always attached to a ball and gripping handle. That wire has a history. Colorists: Raptie & Oniontrain

I want to know the history!

kurogetsui

Motion seconded. Also where is it now that Kass has become yingified?

Aulderbane

Bluffing like MAD. XD

Super Shanko

Somewhere sleeping and/or grumpy.

Super Shanko

Gotta keep a cool head or else you're gonna get the insides on the outside.

valsalia

Everybody's got an item or two from their childhood they keep around because it's got memories attached! A stuffed animal, a favorite blanket... Kass has an industrial-grade steel cable

valsalia

It is, and has always been, Kass' superpower

Flora P-Stylianides

Ooo, interesting that even tho the original segue was Elim thinking about his past we're getting a little bit of Kass too. Also no wonder Isher fell for him, look at that chin

The parallels between this page and the "friendly" conversation Kass and Brakka had in the alley post-stabbing really highlight the differences between this Kass and the much more compact Kass of the present day. Here we see Kass running his mouth in the heat of battle when there really isn't any reason to do so. He is good at reading people both then and now, but here it strikes me more as a defense mechanism, and one that isn't serving him very well. By contrast, they did just about as well as they possibly could to handle the Brakka situation in spite of how drastically the odds were stacked against them. Knowing they had no way of winning by force, Kass immediately read the guy and began figuring out ways to break him down. Perhaps they hoped to gain some means by which they could take control of things in some form or another, probably by showing Brakka how pointless his little interrogation was. This failed less because of Kass’s trying and more because there really wasn’t much way to reason with Brakka given his personality. At one point Kass was even able to nearly extract incredibly important information from the guy! At the very least Kass was able to do their part indirectly by unknowingly buying Elim the time needed to regroup and absolutely body the yinglet gang. But yeah, now that Kass is unable to fight or use their looks or brawn to get things done, part of them seems to realize that they need to hone their last remaining weapon: their ability to persuade, interrogate, motivate, and the way things seem to be going, lead.

valsalia

Nice catch on noticing that! Kass' greatest strength has always indeed been his bigass mouth. And also sometimes his greatest problem-creator.

Flora P-Stylianides

Gone, now. Reduced to fluffy atoms Also I rlly wanna say thank you. For your dedication and love and work you put into your wonderful fluffy/carapace-y/clawy/human-y children

Thorin N. Tatge

Yes, I moused over the underlined word just in case!

Thorin N. Tatge

The idea about Elim coming over to help isn't a bad one. When both fighters have their weapons incapacitated and they're in a stalemate, stalling for help by provoking the guy verbally seems like a pretty strong strategy.

Eh, realistically, beardy would let go of his immobilized sword with one hand and either punch Kass in his big mouth or initiate a grapple. Kass has put himself into a bad position here - a better option probably would have been, assuming beardy has too good of a grip on the weapon to disarm him, to use the leverage the weapon bind granted to Kass to trip his opponent; beardy would most likely lose his grip on the weapon trying to catch himself (or from getting the wind knocked out of him as he faceplanted), allowing Kass to disentangle his own weapon and then whack beardy over the head after a quick wind-up of the old meteor hammer. BUT this works better for getting some dialogue in, and matches the way fights typically go in most fiction, while simultaneously showing Kass' inexperience. And I'm not about to really complain about realism in a story where over a hundred pounds of matter can just disappear into thin air due to the previous owner of said matter having a close encounter with zat zhing.

RamblerJ

Wow. Between this and his close-quarters with Brakka, Kass is a pretty good for a common-class soldier. Also, I do like this insight into both his and Elim's character.

Super Shanko

Chock some of it up to not knowing the way of the ying as he does a human.

YourKingMob

Nah, if beardy punches he's giving up a two-on-one on his weapon, which means he'll instantly be disarmed. Also Kass is off angle making a strike with either hand with any power difficult.

valsalia

There is actually an explanation for that and boy is it hard sitting on that until it's explained in-comic for years, I tell ya what!

valsalia

It's like The Odd Couple, except in a war and one of them is now a rat monster

Nicholas Fabian

Nice wide stance from the bearded soldier at the start shows he has some idea what he's doing.

ComicTF

Baby Kass doing yo-yo tricks down in the playground.
