Chrysalis

EXCUSE me madam, I am trying to have an existential crisis over here, do you MIND

Ngrasta

*Dial-up noises in Kass' brain*

Komitadjie

So much for THAT deep thought. *Bonk* XD

ArcadeDragon

I mean, its a safe bet. That sounds like something Kass would do.

VGR

So you’re saying all yinglettes look alike.

Super Shanko

We don't take kindly to upsetting little yinglet boys 'round these parts!

John Hartman

Haha, I was wondering when that was going to bite Kass in the butt. Kass definitely didn't come off as professional to them.

John C Butler

It's right after Kass and Elim brings Lopin back from the Enclave. Kass, who is deprived of sleep and on her last nerve having just a day before been transformed yells at Lopin that he will "know what he did." And Lopin runs off to the seamstresses who promise to protect him from the "mean Yin Lady." Oops #42, January 5, 2017. One hell of a callback joke.

Fox Starwing

WHEGH indeed, Lopin seems to have firmly entrenched himself in the good graces of the seamstress guild.

Latency

I wonder, unsure the seamstress would take such a liberty with any other Ivenmoth officer... XD

Oh My Dear Precious Goodness <3<3<3 He's trying his best I love him so much

John C Butler

That seamstress? That's a MeeMaw type, A grandmotherly old lady who would wack even the Trademaster in the noggin if she thought he deserved it. And he would let her, too.

John C Butler

To be fair to Kass, he had just changed both species and sex and was operating on the Yinglet equivalent of being up for three days without sleep. But they don't know that.

Vet

She needs glasses….wrong Yinglet. But now Kass sees he’s a girl who doesn’t fit in and a yinglet who doesn’t fit in. Who says lightning doesn’t strike twice. Ouch! And bopped like a misbehaving pup!

Yaodema

No, she got the right one, look at page 42. She has a long memory, it's been a couple weeks!

Finvaara

No, what? No that's not. No. That isn't. No. Stop that. Explain yourself. Surrender your weapon. No. Now explain.

Finvaara

Nah, Lopin was made to cry by Vizlet most recently, while she was visiting.

Finvaara

They're talking about Vizlet making Lopin cry. It was only a couple pages ago.

Finvaara

It has been only a couple pages since Vizlet made Lopin cry.

Yaodema

unless Lopin has come down after meeting with Beizel and talked to them, no, I don't think that's correct. pretty sure Vizlet's visit to the Teeth is still happening right now.

Wat

When did Agnes get into oops :V

John C Butler

But would the seamstresses know that? Vis and company are still at The Teeth and the only person we know for sure that saw Lopin crying was Biezel.

StarstruckEchoid

Such slander. Kass hasn't made Lopin cry in at least, like, two days.

Finvaara

By comparison, it has been long enough that Lopin and Kass have already made up and we know Lopin has been back for costume changes more than once since that happened.

ArcadeDragon

I know, but I refuse an opportunity to poke fun at Kass. It's a sign of affection. Warning: signs of affection are non-refundable, non-bio-degradable, non-environment-friendly, and are the leading cause of dysentery behind playing Oregon Trail. Ask your doctor if signs of affection are right for you (they will tell you "no." )

Vet

Oh yeah I forgot about that

Thorin N. Tatge

Why the speechlessness? Is Kass about to learn something new about being a yinglet? Like, they automatically freeze up when bopped with a soft oblong object?

Finvaara

This is a running gag. Kass reacts this way after every ambush getting blamed for something that somebody else did, totally blindsiding as a result

valsalia

The most responsible thing to do when seeing a yinglet beginning to experience a Deep Thought is to bonk it out of them before it can develop into something dangerous.

valsalia

Yinglettes are easier to tell apart than yinglots

valsalia

Oh he got on that ship ASAP

valsalia

Sometimes he can't even, though!

valsalia

OH SHIT I'VE STOLEN A COPYWRIGHTE

valsalia

Haha, I definitely should have linked back to the much-earlier Lopin-crying page here. Will do so on the next page!

valsalia

Never treat any potential suspect lightly when they are armed

valsalia

And he hasn't complained about those instances to the seamstresses!

valsalia

DEEP-THOUGHT-INTERRUPTED (In a most unexpected way)

Komitadjie

Seems reasonable, otherwise it's boooooones! all over again!

John C Butler

Ah. Sooo, how's he going to feel about her whacking one of his officers in the head?

ComicTF

Kassen_Atoll.exe has stopped responding...

John C Butler

This worries me after going back through the comic again. I know upthread I commented that this woman is a MeeMaw type, but after Mr Omerhan's fate in #66 and the casual threat of flogging for making fun of gaurdsmen who have trouble reading, I remembered this is a medieval setting. MeeMaw likely sees Kass as a pet or mascot, the way we would look at a monkey or dog dressed in a military uniform. But from the way all the other Red Cloaks treat Kass, the badge and gold collar represent the authority of the Trade master delegated to Kass as an officer. In most of the world, until just a couple of centuries ago, striking a superior officer was a serious offence that often carried the death penalty. Kass' double take and horrified "WHY!?" expression may not be for herself. It may be for the old lady who just bought herself a world of hurt.

John C Butler

Yeah. Now Kass' dilemma is how to maintain discipline within the chain of command without being unduly harsh on the old lady.
