I do want to express some devil’s advocacy for this guy who took the statue. Sympathy generally comes or goes from knowing a person’s story, and we know Nothing of what led to this moment for him. Had these last comics followed a man down on his luck, losing his relationships, showing his dire circumstances that led to stealing so he could get through another day, and then just ended with a random guard clawing him in twain, this would have been a tragedy…. Or he could also be a moustache-twirling villain who enjoyed robbing women for kicks. But we don’t know so I’m just saddened by the loss of life. Just had to share after all these comments of people saying he had it coming with no basis beyond breaking a law and getting the death penalty for it.

Dayum. There goes the hopes that it was all just an internal fear. Still... the story is getting emotionally real again, and I approve. Uncomfortable as it is, It's moments like this, or like Kass worrying about an unhatched little one (and the potential future consequences) that set this comic above others. Above repetitive humor, and above just transformation fascination. That is, it has real urgency and plot.

It finally occurs to me to wonder if this will lead to Kal either being assigned or deciding to seek out combat training to prevent that kind of miscalculation again, and the ways that could lead him into Kass's sphere of influence.
