Today, I'm riffing about Oblivion's infinite charm and how its remaster fully delivers on its most beloved features. And no, it's not the nostalgia speaking. Music:Reign of the Septims - Jeremy Soule

So stoked you’re loving Oblivion man. I was kinda having an opposite reaction to the game as you’ve had - initially I wasn’t really on the hype train at all as I’ve just gotten really inundated with open world games, but my younger brothers excitement was contagious so I snagged it. To preface Oblivion was the first game I ever 100% completed, and at the time of release I was truly obsessed with this game. And damn if I totally didn’t appreciate how nostalgic and how in love I still am with this game all these years later. The remaster is such a perfect love letter to all of us that grew up with this game (I was 13 when it came out), and has really reminded me that open world RPGs can actually be a substantial and rewarding experience. With all of that out of the way; for the first time I’m also playing an Argonian! Always wanted to, but I just can’t help myself play as a Nord Paladin type build. Sword and board, holy + ice magic a bit. But this time I committed and have built myself a pretty slick Argonian Assassin named Stalks-in-Shadow. I gotta say though, am I the only person that kinda thinks that some of the Argonian face designs look simian?? Sometimes I see my guy and am like what the hell is this lizard chimp ass face.

Anyone else listening to this alongside Oblivion?

I need a big sword with an owl on the handle and a blade made of metal feathers, and you can widen or compress the blade with some magic so you can wield like a rapier sword or a set of nails arranged incorrectly, like wielding a porcupine

Hey Sam, have you ever watched Pasolini’s Decameron? I haven’t read the stories but I remember that film being very colorful and full of life. Also, make sure you practice the lockpick magic in Oblivion. It really makes you feel like a wizard.

Shout-out swords indeed! Shout-out claymores specifically. I'm not convinced that they are as good from a build craft standpoint as a sword and shield build, but I am playing a paladinesque Breton this time around with heavy armor, restoration and Alteration magic for protection of myself and others, blade, block, and armorer favoring a claymore (glass or ebony for aesthetics, preferably), and speechcraft so that I can lean into the beloved hero looking out for others rp. Started with the knights of the nine questline and loved how suitable it felt for the character I was aiming for. Now it feels awesome to be this champion of the nine charging into Oblivion gates to tank all of the daedric forces. Thanks for the another great pod, Sam. Great vibes just like Oblivion.

Only caught up this week, but the title really captures my feelings on Oblivion quite nicely. Was in a similar situation back then, my first Elder Scrolls, played it at a similar age - and while I’ve not gone back with the remaster musings like this have made me recall lots of fond memories. I tried to make an orc berserker class, but contracted vampirism early and slid down a path of alchemy, illusion magic, and would mostly wield daggers by about 200+ hours later. Didn’t help that the Dark Brotherhood quests were among the most compelling. You already mentioned books, one of my favourite pastimes became searching all the bookstores and ancient ruins in Cyrodiil for missing tomes of some of those 7+ volume epics. Highly recommend the writings of Waughin Jarth, 'A Dance in Fire' in particular is a tale that’s stayed with me long after I’d moved on from the game. If you do end up making a Holograms video on the topic this viewer for one would certainly be delighted. Until then, shoutout to swords indeed.
