2017 (Patreon)

Hey folks,

First off, there will be no video posted this month due to the holidays and finishing another busy semester of teaching and writing research essays. I'm neck-deep working on the January video now, though, and wanted to take a moment to look back on 2017.

I produced 17 videos this year. Of those, nine explored the portfolios of some of Magic's most accomplished artists:

I think my favorite of them is my study on Nils Hamm, but I'm most proud of the visual elements in the David Palumbo video. Which did you like best?

The other eight videos covered some of Magic's most iconic cards.

One With Nothing continues to surprise me with the reception it receives, but I think my personal favorite was the study on flavor text in the Rancor video. I also really dig the Pithing Needle video, and it has become one of my favorite cards since the study. Which was your favorite?

As far as Patronage goes, I acquired 242 new Patrons this year, amounting to an increase of over $700 per video. This has been a collective effort, and I can't thank you guys enough! Because of this, I have been able to spend much more time researching material, improving my editing skills, and growing my channel.

Also because of your pledges, I• launched my first website • developed my first line of merch• guested on three podcasts• attended GP Vegas (and met some of you!)• acquired my dream partnership with Card Kingdom  • produced three videos for Wizards of the Coast

I also sent hundreds of signed cards all over the globe (shoutout to my Patrons in Brasil, Austria, Japan, and the Philippines!), which has been one small way I've found I can give back to you guys. Next year, I will be looking for more ways to return the favors.

Thanks a million for the support this year. I greatly look forward to sharing the next year's successes with all of you.

Cheers, with love,Sam
