Today, I'm discussing the successes and difficulties involved in creating the Spectral Chaos video. This thing kicked my ass! Initially, I thought it would be a shorter, easier video to build while raising a newborn, but it kept growing in scale as I went through the research materials. In the end, I'm glad I put so much effort into telling Barry's story, and I'm curious about what other projects it will eventually inspire within the Magic community at large.

The closest analogues to Virus I can think of are maybe Infect/Wither for the giving counters on damage or cards like Traveling Plague/Necrotic Plague for bouncing from creature to creature? Very much not 1-to-1, but the concept reminded me of those.

The initial reaction we got on Scryfall was awesome until people started to get upset about the way it was being sold. It is what it is. We've here to hype the things we love and there's no shame in that. Fuck the haters.

The development of the language on the cards is such a fascinating idea. We literally have to translate card text from 30 years ago into our modern magic language. I appreciate how you integrate your academic multilingual perspective in your videos and podcasts. As someone who studied and learned a second language in their early adult life, it's a rare and rich perspective.

Virus reminds me of Permeating Mass from Eldritch Moon. Different flavor, but mechanically very similar. I've experienced quite a few "viral" boardstates that started with a Permeating Mass. Also, happy birthday, Sam!
